"The FIG takes note of the Indonesian government's decision not to issue visas to the Israeli delegation... and recognises the challenges that the host country has faced in organising this event."

[That second sentence, really interesting. The lack of condemnation, also very interesting]

I actually very rarely get hit with a Leonard Cohen reference! It's happened maybe twice? I'm as surprised as you are.

My mother did want to name my brother "Numa" for a while, so I think I got off okay, all things considered.

My parents chose the name "Suzanne" because it was easily pronounced by both the French and the Americans.

Little did they know that they were subjecting me to a lifetime of people lightly misspelling my name.

Few have suffered as I have suffered.

BUT WE'RE OUT THERE! THERE ARE DOZENS OF US.

It's me and Suzanne Collins against the world.

"Suzanne" is the french spelling, originating in the French middle ages.

"Susan" (and variations) is the english spelling. There are more Susans than Suzannes in the United States, hence why us poor Suzannes get our names misspelled.

A thirty-year generation divide, and yet Suzannes can always commiserate about our names getting misspelled and mispronounced.

Other Suzanne: I loved living in Louisiana, because everyone spelled my name right

Other Suzanne: it was the french catholics. They got it.

Me: I loved living in Montreal, because everyone spelled MY name right.

Me: That was just the french.

I met another Suzanne tonight. We did the classic "meeting another fellow Suzanne" conversation, which I will replicate for you here:

Other Suzanne: do you spell your name with a 'z'?

Me: the superior way, yes

Other Suzanne: Does everyone call you Susan?

Me: Relentlessly. Sometimes Susie.

Important context is that Gymnastics as a sport has shown absolutely no interest in limiting the participation of Israeli athletes.

And Indonesia just took that choice out of their hands. World Championships start in a week. It's not moving.

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Ah yes it's bedtime. Wind-down time. That's why I've decided to read a book about how AI and big tech are destroying the world. Surely this will help with my sleep.

Fellow volunteer: Try to find Suzanne. She's tall and wears a mask.

Me: I'm TALL???? 🥹🥹🥹

Someone described me as "tall" today in a group text, and I've never felt happier and more affirmed in my life.

I understand that they gave somebody 150 million to be the new boss of CBS. I just want to say, if these people are ever looking to do more novel things with their money, for 150 million dollars I will write an album every day for a year. I'll do it, too. try me

Interesting. I am now too hungry to get out of bed and make myself food. A fascinating modern dilemma. No way to solve it except to post through it!

incredibly funny for people to pretend like multi-millionaire megastar Taylor Swift is just some teenager posting songs on a personal youtube

I cannot believe a 55 year old man cares enough about the lyrics in a young women’s song that he’d post about it online. Cool. ✌🏼

If I have to read this so do you
Screenshot of an article (linked in the quoted post below). The screenshot says "Their romance started in 2015, with a hookup in Adams's office. "He closed the door like a man stepping into something he couldn't walk back from." Ray writes in the book. "And then he said, 'Fuck it.'"
