Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Dean Baccarelli in academic regalia speaks at a podium during the 2025 Convocation ceremony, with a joyful crowd of graduates on a screen in the background. The podium bears the Harvard Chan School emblem. Remember my grandfather's wisdom: we are not those who see darkness, we are those who map constellations. And when future generations ask, "Who helped us find our way home when the skies went dark?" Let the answer… be us. Muhammad Jawad Noon, Student Speaker, Harvard Chan School Class of 2025 Convocation

In addition to gutting Medicaid and SNAP, the House Reconciliation bill takes aim at the clean energy boom 🔋🌱

Slashing clean energy tax credits = slashing jobs in your own district 💼⚡️

Let’s see how that plays out 👀

20 ARMED men bust into your home. They claim they’ve got a search warrant.

They make you stand in the rain w/your 3 daughters in their underwear.

They seize your phones, laptops, your cash life savings.

The suspects listed on the warrant? They don’t live there anymore.

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago:

—Pioneering cancer researcher;
—*Arrested* at airport in Boston;
—Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana;
—"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research.

Read it.

Without scientist Kseniia Petrova’s expertise, no one can fully unlock the data’s potential, putting crucial advancements in early cancer detection at risk.

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants

the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever

they aren’t going into universities’ endowments

they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
mayasen.bsky.social
There is a PR narrative quickly emerging about “entitlement” of elite universities, as if this $ is some sort of subsidy

Harvard & others must counter this quickly

The $ doesn’t flow into Harvard’s coffers - this is grant money, most of which goes to research the govt has agreed has social value

Alternatively, you can try to negotiate with a mafia boss who wants to see you grovel.
When these negotiations fail, as they inevitably will, it will be too late to ask for the public's support.
