Since I got a load of new followers who, I suspect, have no idea who I am, a short introductory thread.

Starting with the basics: I look at data in Magic and try to convert numbers to actionable advice. You might have heard me on Limited Resources, but I also have my own podcast, Magic Numbers.

New magic Numbers are up and it's the ones most of you like to see - the early data for Lorwyn Eclipsed is here. see which colours / cards win the most while I try to sneakily smuggle in my hypotheses about the format's rules of engagement.

With a couple of days of data for Lorwyn draft we have over 70k games. Time to (cautiously) look at the win rates.

Supported color pairs do better than non-supported one, apart from Goblins (RB). They lag seriously behind. But that doesn't mean they are unplayable.

New Magic Numbers are out. And it's time for our eccentric, deck-centric set review.

What are the builds for the supported color pairs and what are some spicy suggestions.

This time we have @sampratt.bsky.social Adam DDVAP and @zakagan.bsky.social

Power 9 is no more. It is power 11. Here is how i found it:

So.... It was put to my attention that Arena powered cube never has packs with 2 pieces of power 9 in them.

I was sceptical, but turns out it is true.

I looked at ~18000 drafts and results are striking.

That one was such a joy to record. I usually can’t escape the data part of my life but this time Shivam grilled me about Sierko the person, not Sierko the number cruncher and I was very happy with the result - and hopefully you will be too.
This week on Casual Magic, I'm joined once again by magic's data impresario @sierkovitz.bsky.social to discuss his life and the art of magic data. Also the wild history of his family's underground politics in Poland during the cold war!

What is better in vintage cube: Black Lotus or Sol Ring? data suggests in the Arena version of the cube it is Lotus and it's not particularly close. That is just one of many, many tidbits in my latest magic Numbers - all about cube data. make sure to check it out.

So - I did some analysis of Arena Power Cube - come and join me, we can talk about what makes the decks tick and hopefully confirm and challenge some long held beliefs.

The storm in the UK was real.

How do I know?

Well…

Good I was not in the loo… We are fine, just frustrated with life. Just finished doing the house up. Back to square 1. I dread to see the roof damage in the morning.

I really like the look of the Lorwyn Special Guest sheet but the flavour text on that one is something else...
January 7, 2026 at 2:54 PM
Controversial take: Being grumpy because a deck is so good that even decks designed specifically to beat if don't get 50% WR against it is not the same as being grumpy cause now you need to put interaction in your decks to deal with a 2/2

Latest Magic Numbers are on YT! This time I am looking at the best of 2025. But in a shocking twist - I do it from the perspective of data. Who could have expected?

Time to sum up 2025 Limited through data - multiple categories of cards and win rate comparison to try and find some trends that spanned 5 regular sets of this past year.

I need some cheering up... Spent the whole day recording an unboxing vid for my TLA Collector Boxes and discovered that my microphone got fucked during recording and it sounds horrendous

:(

Should I still put it out?
January 2, 2026 at 11:24 PM
I start by figuring out which retail set the 7 people in question are the most familiar with and get a box of that. And after the retail draft we vintage cube. Tried cube before retail in the past and it doesn’t work well.
mtg personality test but the only question is "there are 8 people who want to play, how do you accommodate this?"
January 2, 2026 at 11:52 AM
2025 was a good year. Podcast is still alive and well, I did well in a paper event, started working with a pro team, won some boxes.

But most importantly, I did it on my own terms. Without compromising my values. I hope I can sustain that for 2026.

And wish you the same.

A rare proud father post (I’m proud all the time just post about it rarely).
My daughter got her Switch 2 for Christmas and spent the next 2 days - no, not playing - crocheting a case for it and I was trully amazed by the result. Extra pockets, slot for cartridges - work of art.

Since y'all been naughty, here is an early Christmas coal lump in the form of my latest Magic Numbers on You Tube. This time: playing 16 lands in your deck in a defiance to what the website prescribes.

When to do it, when to avoid it and why do it.

Enjoy, I'm off to cook!

Going live with the new Magic Numbers. And since it is my birthday (sort of) we will be focusing on my favourite website: 16Lands.

When to trim that 1 land, what does the data say and why looking at raw win rates doesn't paint the full picture.

🏆 OK - look, you can judge the mana base and you would be right to do so. I was dying to get barrels but never saw one when it was a realistic pick. Still a 7-2 because if you have bad mana - make sure to draw well. Drew Avatar Aang 3x, 2x died on sight, once never cast it.

Someone told me I should brag more, so here is me getting a mention at the Worlds coverage. According to Team Cosmos captain, Anthony Lee I'm not-as-good as Marc Anderson, but great at data.

An evaluation I don't fully agree with. The first half is correct tho.

🏆 A reminder that despite powerful rares in TLA, you can have zero of those and still trophy rather comfortably. 3 Octopus Forms seems a lot, but trust me - they were the key to my wins. Winning races is hard when your creatures are smaller and this ensured I could do it.

New episode is on YT now! I talk about regrets in drafting and why should we have fewer of those. Also, showing neatly how top win rate players rely less on playables in pack 1 but instead use it to find a lane and how that investment pays off.
