DLD is not something that people grow out of, and in adulthood it can continue to have significant impacts. Especially when unsupported.
Rachel Sievers summarised her observations from her work with adults with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
We need services and awareness!

DLD is really very common. Way more common than other well know conditions such as autism.
DLD is a difficulty with using and understanding words and sentences.
And the biggest problem is that very few people have heard of it.

The international awareness day for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is less than 3 months away on October 17! We are missing the DLD mouse! I wonder what she is doing to spread the word this year! #devlangdis

Thanks to Jess Meredith from Differing Minds for the opportunity to raise awareness of the relatively common but under-diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition DLD (especially in adults) with our conversation last week. Catch us on You Tube.

From our two specialist schools, we’ve seen how technology can help children with complex speech and language challenges.

But this is not a complete solution — Early years and school staff still need mandatory training in speech and language development.

Excited to be supporting adults with DLD (developmental language disorder) to participate fully in the final workshop of 'DLD Questions' tomorrow at RCSLT in London, shaping future research priorities for DLD with people with lived experience and their families and speech and language therapists.

Thank you @Susan Guthrie for bringing together SLTs working in mental health with colleagues working with adults with DLD (developmental language disorder) at Leeds Beckett University last week. Hope this will be the first of many opportunities to work together on these important issues.

Great to see this work going on with teens. Adults with a late diagnosis really miss out on this experience that they are not alone.

Fascinating insights into the adult experience of assessment/diagnosis of autism/ADHD at the Diagnostics CEN on Wednesday. Time to give the same opportunities for assessment and feedback to adults with developmental language disorder (DLD)! #DLD #DevLangDis #RADLD #inclusion #neurodiversity

We haven't met for a few years unfortunately. Vicky Joffe and Gill Earl are the main contacts. If you are in RÇSLT you should be able to find it on basecamp.

I've joined Blue Sky to raise awareness about developmental language disorder (DLD) in adults. It so often gets left out of discussions about neurodivergence. I'll be posting more on this soon. #DevLangDis #RADLD #NAPLIC #AFASIC #inclusion #neurodiversity #neurodiversityatwork
