I rely on SNAP for my entire food budget. Fundraising has never gone well for me, but I really really need help or I'm going hungry almost immediately after the month starts.

Masking at ublic transit, hospitals, pharmacies, and the grocery store would be absolutely fantastic for public health tbh.

Improved ventilation could mitigate the need for even that much but at this rate, we will never know for sure.

yeah, i think a commitment to public health obligates you to get vaccinated and, when you are sick, do what you can to avoid spreading that to other people. the demand that one mask at all times in public spaces is, i think, unreasonable.

Obviously none of this to say no one else had malicious ghosts historically, just that there's a clear escalation in the scale and breadth into modern culture.

I would imagine it plays a lot in the consciousness of the culture that this exact period is when early photography allowed spectral images of people and was constantly used to take pictures of, for instance, the corpses of infants out of some memory-hoarding mania
