Some of it was absolutely unresolved trauma and deep mental health struggles, but the most important thing about both of those things is that neither is your fault but they are your responsibility. Comes a time you have to be the one that both *wants* different and *moves* different. (3/4)

I also was once in community with someone who was endlessly, *endlessly* like this and they became extremely tiring & got banned. Extreme learned helplessness white queer type shit where they'd just flop over and say "no I can't do it/I'm forever shit/you're bullying me" at any correction. (2/4)

This is a good thread, but I'll also add that this is why I semi-aggressively check people who respond to compliments about their creative endeavors by saying "no it's not actually that good". Rooted in very similar energy as Joe is describing here, just not as extreme as the given example. (1/4)
sometimes someone in my discord is is so self-hating, stating as fact such nasty shit, that they become hostile to any kindness at all. "i'm shit and if you say I'm not you're lying to me" type shit. you have to change your outlook before your helplessness becomes real in a way you don't expect

I admit I didn't know about the Willamsburg Bridge bump (I don't travel into that part of the city on bike) & I know a lot of people will go WELL THIS IS JUST PERFORMATIVE but the small stuff matters too. He can be held to task for bigger failures if or when he makes them, let's take the small Ws.

all of those parts are interlinked. even if you commission art for some sort of exchange (money, service trade, etc), it implies you give a shit about the work someone has to do to make the art and want to compensate them for the effort that the process takes (3/5)
