For nearly a year, the administration has said that DOGE had no unauthorized access to your Social Security data. A new government filing admits that was false.

Im a trade worker in NE Ohio and during the molten Biden economy people still insisted that "help wanted signs" meant that 'nobody wants to work' because humanity is a social animal and if dumb memes can tell us we are right and 'victims' vs evidence we will take memes as we walk up the scaffolding.

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...
Spotlighting The World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell
Somewhat devastating news today from the CIA: One of CIA’s oldest and most recognizable intelligence publications, The World Factbook, has sunset. There's not even a hint as to why they …

things I would do if I had as much money as Jeff Bezos:
—keep a number of obscure comics in print
—give a $1m to every public library in the country
—endow newsrooms in every city with more than 1m people
—buy the Walgreens Boots Alliance and convert it to a network of free clinics

It seems that the proclivity toward serious criminality (felonies) is far higher among ICE and CBP agents than among immigrants taken as a whole. Stats on this subject are persistent and offer the same results.

I first read this book when I was a wee lass.

I just read it again.

I have confirmed the gist of this report out of federal court in Minnesota today from a source familiar.

If you have more information about the District of Minnesota—either the court or the U.S. Attorney's Office—and how they are handling all of this, please reach out. I am at crg.32 on Signal.

This is absolutely insane: DHS claims the right to subpoena your emails and to send investigators to your house. In this case, because a retiree sent the mildest possible criticism to a prosecutor. No judges involved.

A reminder that the Kennedy Center is the literal and legal and congressional designated presidential memorial to JFK. This would be like Trump tearing down the Lincoln Memorial to build something “better.”
He’s going to tear it down

Don’t listen to people who say all politicians are crooks, or that everyone lies. You know who says that?
Crooks & liars. They see in others what they are themselves.

But most people aren’t crooks & liars.
Most people are decent.
And we have had enough of these crooks & liars

That’s why #GA14 is critical. Volunteer, organize, and vote — this race can make a real difference.

Someone said protests don’t belong in church and it took every ounce of self-censure within me not to say “Deborah you are literally a Protestant.”

I assume they think Luther was nailing Bed, Bath, & Beyond coupons to the door.
