Real-life shaggy dog story. (Too long set-up, groaner pay-off.)

Last night we had a 1,620-piece truck -- medium-sized. Also an easy one for the This Year in History game we play when I tell the crew the truck size. 1620, Plymouth Rock. With 1,212 pieces out of that as "conveyable freight." 1/7

Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.

Feh. The coolest bands I’d never heard of in the ‘80s were introduced to me by the Morrison bros. of Clearfield, Pa. The Duffers having a small-town kid like Max be a Kate Bush fan the summer after “So” came out is spot on.
Well I suppose it had to happen eventually: Freddie DeBoer has written something that I agree with 100%.

We won’t get an “At long last, sir, have no sense of decency?” moment.

Instead, some MAGA cabinet member will be at a hearing, ranting about “antifa” and some senator will say “That’s not antifa. It sounds more like bofa.”

And then Miller or Noem or whoever it is will say “What’s bofa?”

It's true that immigration can threaten a nation's cultural values.

But only if that nation's "cultural values" are bigotry, inhospitality, prideful ignorance, rigid forced conformity, and stunted parochialism.

Oh, and bland food.

And stale music.

Just heard Tom Waits’ “Ol’ ‘55,” which he released in 1973.

So if you did that song today it would be about driving in a beat-up car from 2007.

Alonso in Boston would mean lots of doubles off the Green Monster turning into singles off the Green Monster.
Pete Alonso is driving 90 minutes from his Tampa home to the Winter Meetings in Orlando tomorrow to meet with the Red Sox and Orioles, per Jon Heyman. It's "unclear" if he'll meet with the Mets.

I miss the blogosphere and the link-driven, non-algorithmic web.

But one thing I miss so very much was that brief period when Google worked well and you could do a first-result reverse directory search for any incoming number that popped up on your phone. That was so cool, and it's so long gone.

In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests.

Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here."

It's all part of growing religious blowback to ICE. religionnews.com/2025/12/05/i...

(RNS) — 'We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt, has to flee and faces political violence,' the Rev. Michael Woolf said.

You probably had a better Saturday than Vice Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, but that’s because you didn’t order anyone to kill two helpless, unarmed people like Vice Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley did.

Philly history lesson, Meet a local legend.
A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."

Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).

For any justice making up reasons to say the clear language of the 14th Amendment impeachment should be understood as the most lenient available consequence.

It would generously and magnanimously allow the protection of law for those decreeing that it should not apply.
If, as we all hope, SCOTUS does not decide that clear constitutional language is worth less than dogshit, we need to note which justices agree that it is, and if we get enough power, toss them the fuck out.

That should be a disqualifying and impeachable offense on the level of taking a direct bribe

This affects me and my crew directly. Fewer drivers means fewer trucks, which means bigger trucks. Instead of a 1,500-piece truck every night you get two 2,000-piece trucks and two no-truck nights every week -- meaning fewer hours, but much harder work in the fewer hours you get. Not sustainable.
Ok people like when I talk about my job, modern logistics work for food manufacturing,

And here’s a fun one: there’s already a shortage of truck drivers and it’s about to get very bad, this will lead to a lot more inflation
