A year after moving to a place where I know almost no one, I'm still figuring out ways to be social. But this morning, I joined up with my amazing group of folks who help give out food and clothes to unhoused folks, and tonight I went to a drag shadow cast of Elf. I'd call that real, solid progress.

Whenever a thread goes around about movies you've watched 6 times or whatever, I wonder how people can pick just one. I can think of three I've rewatched in the last two weeks. Go back to Halloween, it jumps to five or six. My list would never end!

So love wobbegongs. Everything is good about the wobbegong. Its name. Its flattened Oscar the Grouch face. Its frondy bits. Its lazy life as a hungry rug. And it’s a shark. Outstanding animal 10/10
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

I rewatched Aliens recently and subjected multiple people to my takes about how good it is. But what I didn't really get into with any of them is how visceral all of the goop is. It's so fucking goopy in a way that you just can't recreate with fake computer goop.

Found out tonight that Short Circuit 2 is on YouTube. Started it expecting to find that the movie I loved as a kid is worse than the original, which already didn't hold up. Halfway through, it's already way better than I remember, and Bonnie Tyler hasn't even entered the picture.

Since moving here, I've thought this narrow, one-way street needed speed bumps, but worried that requesting them would be obnoxious outsider behavior. But I did the request yesterday, after I watched a semi speed the wrong way up it, snag a power cable, and fully rip a light pole out of the ground.

5 and a half years ago, the world shut down and took most of my social outlets with it, including @trashnightvideo.bsky.social at the Brattle. They were one of the first to go digital, and in my toughest times, monthly Trash Night Twitch streams have been my best pressure release.
