I am so beyond angry that this is the case for so many people now.

Even as a white person whose parents were born here (I have 1 grandparent who wasn't but came over as a kid), I worry due to my queerness, disability, and outspoken values.

For my BIPOC and immigrant friends? It's so much worse.

Until a neighbor heard her idea and begged her not to go. He was scared she wouldn't be let back in to the country.

She had to grapple with that because while her parents were immigrants, they were full US citizens and so is she.

And still ... she is now too scared to go on the trip.

A very close friend of mine who has been going Some Shit was recently asked to go along on a girl's trip outside the US. Despite her health and financial issues, my friend was seriously considering going because she needed something good in her life something desperate.

Seeing pictures of an abandoned tamale cart in Pilsen where ICE took a tamale street vendor. Those photos of left behind carts are so haunting. Community members disappeared. Not just vendors but people who have long standing relationships with the community and people.
