I had a unexpected downtime earlier following a rough morning, so I finally checked out indie darling Megabonk. It’s Vampire Survivors but in 3D, so the One More Round is strong. I absolutely love these games whose entire progression systems are just unlocking new additional mechanics/options 🤩

This was clearly conceived of as a fun marketing/PR stunt - packaging it like a 65” tv, etc. But at that price, in 2025, I think most people will just be buying it because they’re desperate for food. Didn’t they produce this and then it was purchased by Fox? I understand what folks are saying, but I don’t really think it’s apples to apples with actually producing material FOR them (I understand why Fox would be interested in buying/running it tho, we’re seeing it play out already)
I read a review for this game (eurogamer?) that noted that using AI voice acting the way it does felt like it undercut the game’s story/theme of fighting robots after the AI apocalypse. I hesitate to talk about dissonant or discordant narrative experiences in games, but that’s a yikes.
I don’t want to be a Debbie downer but I DO love being the friend that’s too woke. ARC Raiders uses generative AI for its character voices, and this is stated on its steam page. I’m sure it’s a fun game, but please just give it a second thought for not hiring voice actors and using generative AI.

Perfect example of political media operating under the post-truth standard that (1) distorts the facts until the parties look approximately equal, and (2) holds “do MAGA voters care?” as a higher standard than “is it true?” or “is it important for the public to know about this?”
