Prominent people in media were used to deference and thought everyone couldn't wait to hear them talk because they were on TV or had a column. Then people were mildly critical on social media and the occasional rando was mean and now they genuinely believe it's worse than a fascist government.
I feel comfortable mentioning the time I mildly criticized Jake Tapper on Twitter for a “what do you expect of a defense lawyer“ comment on Twitter and he responded by DM just FURIOUS and resentful I would call him out in public.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.
