I've been speaking with Noreen daily. She just wants to take care of her children.
Sharing for Noreen in Gaza again today. Her youngest son (2 yr old Ghaith) is sick & getting worse, and needs medicine.

Medicine is incredibly expensive because of how little aid is getting in. If you (yes, you) can give even the cost of a cup of coffee, it would help! chuffed.org/project/emer...

In Morrow County, healthy adults were coming down with unexplained medical conditions, including diseases that usually afflicted the elderly.

In a survey of 30 homes, at least 25 miscarriages and a half dozen people living with one kidney were reported.

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

This is a stunning story. I've been tracking the "greenhushing" narrative for a while now: this is the idea that strict regulations on fake climate claims spooks companies into total silence; therefore we shouldn't regulate them.

@meyer.bsky.social asked for examples and the Carney gov't failed:

My mom worked at a zoo in the '80s. One time a hang-glider blew way off course and crashed in the big cat area, all the staff going "oh my god he's dead" and racing to find him.

Suddenly on the radio "HE LANDED IN THE CHEETAHS, the lucky sonofa!!"
Cheetahs continue to be scary predators.

It’s another way of racial segregation and apartheid

Because racism is monetized guess whose not rewarded
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

Quality of life in Gaza has not improved since the "ceasefire". Most are still displaced and without food. Many are still dodging violence from Israeli attacks. Aid is still not being allowed in at anywhere near the levels required to help the population.
