As @gregsargent.bsky.social points out, Trump *has* given illegal orders.

But he’s also so allergic to democratic ideals that the very idea of a military (or any other institution) that serves the people rather than the ruler is totally illegible and incomprehensible to him.

Smells like fear of retaliation...
In a statement, Skandalakis said that his appointment “reflects my inability to secure another conflict prosecutor to assume responsibility for this case.”

He contacted several prosecutors, each of whom declined to take the case, per statement.

Republicans have spent the last fifty years aggressively (and very successfully) bullying the press into being feckless chickenshits when it comes to telling the truth about Republicans and their usually corrupt, unpopular policies

Trump is just the least-subtle version of it
By the way, note that the description of Biden as being "in obvious mental decline" was left in the speech, while the description of Trump as the "most openly corrupt president in American history" was removed:
Note that the BBC openly admits in an email to me that the removal of this claim about Trump's world-historical corruption was done "on legal advice."

Translation: Trump's threat of a lawsuit, no matter how bogus, has now been rewarded.

When Trump is asked about the leaked Witkoff call with Russia, he doesn’t realize Witkoff was giving Russia advice on how to play Trump. People working for TRUMP are helping the OTHER PARTIES get one over on Trump.

The fact that only 3 (by my count) Republican members of Congress have spoken out about the Witkoff situation shows how thoroughly corrupted and compromised the entire party has become from top to bottom. None of this is about just Trump - it is the entire political party.

Deportations to Add Almost $1 Trillion in Costs to the “Big Beautiful Bill”
Properly considered, the actual cost of H.R. 1’s immigration enforcement spending is nearly $1 trillion more than the CBO estimates. When seen in the context of the overall costs of the bill, mass dep...

Nativists love to talk about the costs of immigrants, but each ICE agent is making $213,000 in total compensation to destroy our rights, freedoms, families, friendships, neighborhoods, and economies. Worse than a "welfare queen." It'd be better to pay them to stay home.

Trump’s base is crammed with America Firsters who claim to hate the way the US has interfered with the internal politics of other countries. This was one justification for cutting USAID and other forms of soft power. But when Trump crimes with his dictator buddy in Brazil, there will be crickets.
Pretty convincing evidence here that the Trump administration was planning to jailbreak and provide asylum for Bolsonaro -- and that Trump inadvertently revealed the plan.

And this, as the now-cliche goes, would have been a paralyzing scandal for any other administration.
Trump appears to blurt out secret plan, not knowing it's already a bust

Our convicted felon president, who pardoned Enrique Tarrio, the leader of the Proud Boys convicted of seditious conspiracy, wants to charge Mark Kelly, a decorated war veteran and astronaut, with seditious conspiracy.

That’s some next-level banana republic shit right there.

Data from June 19, when the daily high was 106 degrees, shows asphalt across the city that day was between 120 and 160 degrees.

Have any news outlets that ran scathing front page headlines, op-eds and editorials about Biden pardoning Hunter admitted that they were wrong after we've seen Trump maliciously prosecute Comey, James, McIver etc?

The correct and obvious contention that the blanket nature of the pardon was necessary due to the possibility that Trump would unfairly target Hunter and others with kangaroo court indictments was not even considered as within the bounds of acceptable debate.

I’ve seen absolutely nothing and Biden was proven 100% right.

They even claimed Trump was going to use that to justify pardoning people, which has become only far more laughable with who Trump has pardoned
