@sspadafore.bsky.social we are natural story tellers. Taking a complex history and turning it into a one liner.

Tonight, I'll go home and sleep in my bed. I have a lawyer, I'll get due process.

But Edgardo, whose arm was ripped from mine by ICE agents, has none of those things.

That's why I'll keep coming back to court, week after week, to make sure that people's rights are protected.

It still amazes me that people could look at this and think that any number of “gang members” in that group is worth this one person being locked up without a charge or trial, and sent to a torture camp.

As someone who is “not a criminal,” this terrifies me.
This keeps getting worse and worse.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

6 more days for this to be proven wrong, other wise the AMA is in need of a serious leadership change.

This is how the Democrats recover from 2024. We don’t win defending the status quo, we win by defining the future we want. We win with inspiration and vision, not a defense of what currently is. Change is possible, and people clearly want it.

Pausing or decreasing admissions is an obvious and necessary response to the uncertainty purposefully created by Trump.

The ripple effect of this will last for years, and delay/prevent cures and prevention of disease for even longer. We must continue to resist this harm in every way we can.

This is the problem with viewing everything in life as a competition with winners and losers. You’re so focused on “winning” that you end up beating the people whose only goal in life is to help people.

Our country is choosing the dark ages, and you and I will suffer for it.
This is understandable for Pitt but sad for science in general and the U.S. in particular. Pitt was the home institution of Dr Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine. But you know we have RFK Jr, Trump, and Musk as leaders - none of whom have graduate degrees in any scientific discipline.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

It's past midnight, and Senate Republicans are voting NO against every Democratic-led amendment to PROTECT HEALTH CARE for our families.

Pay close attention: Republicans are working to push kids off Medicaid to pass MORE tax cuts for billionaires.
Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

RFK says fluoride is toxic, but in 2011 Calgary took fluoride out of drinking water, and the number of children receiving IV antibiotics for dental infections at Alberta Children’s Hospital increased by 700% from 2011 to 2018. Calgary is now bringing back fluoride.

This city took fluoride out of the water. Now it’s putting it back in
Calgary, which has endured ten years of worsening dental health and is reversing its decision, is a cautionary tale for Robert F Kennedy Jr

Making everything demonstrably worse.
Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order.
TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

Controversial opinion: the CDC site being down is better than a censured version being up. Public Health voices will fill the void, but if the space is occupied, it’s harder to be heard.
Wow. So not only were several bird flu studies left out of today’s CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, some data on bird flu briefly appeared in the online report and then was quickly removed.

Nothing to see here, just the Trump admin making sure that we are less prepared for disasters in the future.
February 4, 2025 at 4:00 PM
While everything is awful right now, I have to say: the fact that the CDC can't tell me about preventing HIV but hey can continue to collect my race and gender information in direct defiance of Trump's EOs is just the dumbest timeline.

This is his mission. Laws don’t matter. The constitution doesn’t matter. He’s trying to remove all evidence of protecting against discrimination. What a pathetic and weak leader Trump is.
The web page about section 1557, the ACA’s prohibition of discrimination based on
race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex, no longer exists.
