Like a spy drop, my brilliant editor Rebecca Bardem at Bloomsbury has specially come to hand over the very first preview copy of my BFI Classics book. Where else but at the BFI? 🎥

Two months late, but I finally listened to this - enjoyed it a lot, especially the Knightmare stuff, loved that show, and have occasionally watched a bit on YouTube - still holds up.

On Twin Peaks FWWM - my own view on the level of violence is that it's horrific, but still justified. (cont)

This episode reminded me of the dispute between John Noakes and the BBC over his desire to do an advert featuring his catchphrase, "Get down, Shep!" I still say that whenever the cat jumps to where she shouldn't be, even though that's not her name.
Completely did for Noakes' TV career, didn't it?

I LOVED that series as a child. I was fortunate growing up in Toronto because our provincial public broadcaster (TVO) bought loads of Children's TV shows from Britain.

I've only just managed to catch up with this but instantly watched the 'The Ghosts of Motley Hall' episode afterwards. It's a series I have very vague early memories of. It's now going on my playlist for next Christmas!

Your NY resolution is to discover @squarewindowpod.bsky.social & in latest ep learn why @gkw.bsky.social thinks the Star Wars holiday special is a bit like an ‘Allo’Allo! episode but not as good. And why I am perturbed by the number of knives in Minder On The Orient Express & the Woolies’ Xmas ads..

Watching Candleshoe again because of Gatiss' rant on @squarewindowpod.bsky.social What is interesting that though the exteriors are proper US, the interiors are clearly UK - Michael Balfour and Mildred Shay as her guardians, but it still feels more American than British.

I love the fact that this very weird show has been covered by the mighty Phil and the excellent @squarewindowpod.bsky.social in the same week. It fills me full of Christmas cheer.
Russel Harty Goes Upstairs, Downstairs (known colloquially as "Russell Harty Fucke Uppe An Interviewe"): a Boxing Day treat nobody asked for, as Harty attempts to chat to the UD cast both in and out of character at the same time. It gets confusing.

If you haven’t caught @gkw.bsky.social and my Christmas special @squarewindowpod.bsky.social here’s a lovely reason you should.. praise from, @paulkirkley.bsky.social is highly valued! 🎄🎄🎄
What a lovely, Christmassy nostalgia blast of an ep. Particularly delighted by the love for Minder on the Orient Express (also my favourite Christmas TV memory). Hadn't realised, until I wrote a thing about it a few years ago, how big a story the pre-match rivalry with OFAH had been at the time.

Fresh ep of @SquareWindowpod.bsky.social is a fab celebration of good and awful Christmas TV past. Featuring Mark Gatiss’s time-haunted pick of The Ghosts of Motley Hall. And me & @gkw.bsky.social celebrating the Woolworths adverts as a document of social history. podfollow.com/1838296345
