Okay, here’s my plan. I’ve not read a lot of La Nora, so I’m going to try and score as many squares as possible on the @smartbitches.bsky.social bingo card with Nora Roberts books. As many old categories as possible, too. This feels really doable.
Me: maybe I’ll do one of the romance reading bingos this year!

Also me: Here are ten parameters I can set myself to make it far too complicated to even start!
The Ohio legislatures who have slashed every other tax, pushing the burden down to the community level, now want to help the communities with the tax burden they created?

The most relevant of my books this time of year? The Anti-Social Season! A chaos muppet former firefighter with burnout and anxiety! An order muppet librarian tasked with training her in her new job (social media)! The holidays! ROMANCE.

Okay but can we talk about anxiety being under three different numbers? Haven’t we anxious suffered enough???
Sometimes I think it’s going to be the librarians who will save us all.

And so say all of us.
my take on Food Discourse is that it's always ridiculous but it's also nice to be fighting about dumb internet shit again instead of dealing with Oppressive Despair all the time so please keep posting your bad takes

Reposting since there are a bunch of new people around - All books mentioned are out and Acting Up (my first published book and #1 in the Center Stage series for recovering theater kids) is currently free on all platforms if you want a sampler.

Alternatively, try my novella The Wedding Bait!
Okay, it's time for a proper intro thread, not just the one I whacked up there during the workday.

I'm Adele, I'm a law librarian by day and romance author by night. I talk occasionally about a bunch of stuff but a lot about books.

I'm about to talk about my books!

In honor of the first thanksgiving without Susan Stamberg, I’ll share a different weird cranberry recipe I found years ago in a 1940 PET Milk cookbook. I give you Cranberry Slaw.

People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!”

Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

This part. Teachers are so undervalued and underpaid and loudly told both "you're essential" and also "you suck and if you say a word out of line, you might get fired and/or be targeted for harassment by the most powerful people in the country"
And of course we get the brain-dead political analysis. The biggest crisis of public education (and the greatest threat to kids with mental illness) is the Republican Party's funding cuts. But guess who gets blamed in the conclusion of the article?

lol if you wanted it so bad, go sign up for a free trial of Kobo Plus & read it free w/ your account. Boom. Solved.

You can’t keep trying to individualize systemic problems. The problem isn’t views, it’s a system set up to benefit the few at the expense of the many. I LOVE public transit, but it doesn’t exist here in any meaningful way. And it would cost way more to move somewhere that did.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

I’ve had a lot of good advice from teachers, but my archival processing professor told me “It can be perfect, or it can be done. It cannot be both.” And that has really stuck with me!
What’s the most significant advice you received from a teacher?

I had a Geology prof who always said “have strong opinions, loosely held”

Be passionate, assess alternatives with conviction, take sides. But don’t fall so in love with your opinions that you can’t change them with better data.
