As I get older, I grow more convinced that the simplest way to filter the seriousness of people's worldviews is see if they are willing to apply and abide by the same kinds restrictions they want to impose on others.

"They should do..."
Oh? And you'll do that too right? No?

Finally, an ICE agent is willing to show his qualifications for how he got the job.
Here's the full video, btw: state and local police violating first amendment rights in the bitter cold while ICE quite literally shows their whole ass

High praise from a world class engineer.
When it comes to private communications, I trust Signal over everything else.

America is an immature culture. I don’t mean that as a cheap insult. I mean that in the deepest, profound sense of the word: we *never* matured to having high levels of the electorate be educated and thoughtful enough to deal seriously with our problems. We are a credulous, cruel, selfish society.
Many rightly call out the insane hypocracy of gun rights advocates justifying murder because the victim carried a gun.

Just want to add that authoritarian movements NEVER respect any of the principles they proclaim to follow. It's always only about rights of the in-group to terrorise out-groups.

Listening to Carney’s speech as an American was a visceral reminder of what it would be like to have a competent, educated, thoughtful, well-adjusted human being in a position of national leadership.

We’re talking complete sentences, basic geographical understanding…all the bells and whistles.

Scoop: The Trump administration is preventing Vineyard Wind from implementing major safety fixes to its offshore turbines, threatening public safety and the environment

An absolutely massive story in collaboration with @emilypont.bsky.social who took the lead for @heatmap.news

The offshore wind developer was in the process of completing necessary repairs when the administration issued its stop work order, according to court filings.

#selfhosting is a great first step towards #privacy and #data sovereignty for people with the interest in learning.

But we are way overdue for the uncomfortable conversation about digital #infrastructure alternatives: defcon.social/@srfaudio/11...

This administration is 100% headed this way.

Listen, #selfhosting is a great first step for those with the desire to learn, as you begin to see all of the ways that your #privacy and #data sovereignty have been eroded. But, it is long past due...

The winds around here were pretty epic today, and I had killer #kitesurfing session! It was also ~70F degrees in the Midwest. Tonight, it will drop to 16F, not including wind chill. While I had fun, it also boggles the mind to think that people still refuse to see that the #climate it changing.

There’s a lot of cloud tech out there that’s useful. But few are what I would describe as “fun.”

@grafana.bsky.social is the shining exception to that rule. I am often thinking of more ways I can try to use it, just because dashboard creation is so much fun.
With the year coming to an end, we're excited to share 2025's memorable #Grafana use cases and dashboards.

With all the innovative ways the community used our dashboards this year, it begs the question: What can't you do with Grafana?

I swear, the marketing department for #deltek need to be teaching master classes on enterprise sales, because I am utterly baffled at how they are able to sell that steaming-pile-of-dog-shit "timekeeping" software to so many large companies.

Like, seriously, how?? It fails at every level of UX.

Maybe you've been thinking about switching to #linux lately. Here's a helpful guide: defcon.social/@srfaudio/11...

There's been a really cool increase in switching to #Linux over the last year. But, almost certainly, the first problem you run into after deciding you'd like to try it is "holy shit...wait, what's ...

Calling all #kubernetes people. Y'know how sometimes you deploy those little services that have a helpful web UI, but with sensitive data in them? You don't want them open to the world, but your platform team benefits from having them? Yeah. This is the magic: github.com/oauth2-proxy... #k8s #helm

We are, by and large, a dipshit electorate.
This is completely disgusting. Today, the CDC updated their vaccine safety page. It now says:

“The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism”.

I suppose for a culture that is historically steeped in the Protestant work ethic, the current reality is either 1) its natural conclusion, or 2) the required level of absurdity to finally disabuse ourselves of its veracity

When I went through military broadcast journalism school, they taught an ultra-naive version of "be factual in your articles." It always deeply bothered me, because it encouraged an uncomplicated absence of self-reflection about how the writer's biases affect framing & word choice. 1/2
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

"Global Elite" is a really unhelpful descriptor when it should be more like: "Narcissistic, god-Complex Wealth Hoarders with a Demonstrably Decreased Level of Empathy for Their Fellow Humans."

Any time you see "Global Elite" in some news article, try substituting it for the correct descriptor.

Spent the evening getting @bitwig.bsky.social running on @fedora.fosstodon.org.ap.brid.gy, and getting my audio interface and monitors connected.

I had no goals.

I played with samples and synths. I jammed on guitar to some drum loops. I didn't do anything productive, and it was awesome.

On the one hand, it makes me sad that Pat Metheny Group's "The Way Up" was their last album. On the other, every time I hear it I'm reminded that it was, hands down, their magnum opus, and I was incredibly lucky to be in the live audience when they recorded the DVD in South Korea.

Wild that Republicans won by shamelessly going to their malevolent, batshit extreme right fringe on policy positions, but Dems are all "if we support perfectly reasonable, popular left candidates, who will think of the poor centrists??"

Absolutely wild how, in less than 10 years, we've watched large media companies go from attempting to convince people of their scrappy, Fourth Estate bona fides, to just nakedly crumbling into irrelevant sycophants for the rich.
