I love my job, but is biting my tongue through the "disability awareness" part of the EDI training just something I have to do now?

Map lovers, may I recommend East Riddlesden Hall? They have an excellent 17th C map of Canaan with annotations from the Old Testament. And they let me use a special torch to read it all.

Wandering round Sir Walter Scott's house and I realised that my entire knowledge of the French and English royal families of, say, 1600 - 1750, is anchored around one woman, Henriette d'Angleterre. A win for feminism I think.

With respect, you're a man. But I'm very glad you've been well cared for

It is incredibly depressing how much racism and sexism and ableism is baked into every medical interaction

I bought a Merton College Oxford jumper for the express purpose of wearing to medical appointments. Consultants have frequently taken me more seriously after I've mentioned studying there.

As most people who have been chronically ill under NHS care can tell you, a medical professional's personal biases absolutely affect how they treat you, whether they listen to you, how they transmit information to other medical staff.

This shouldn't be a controversial statement.

Swipe for an update on our Disability Campaign group from SCM Member Sorrel! ➡️

If you're a student who is passionate about social justice, DM us to join our Disability Rights Campaign WhatsApp 💌
If one part suffers, the other parts suffer with it: An update on the SCM Disability Campaigns Group. "In SCM we have many disabled members, as well as members who are carers. We are also, as a movement, inspired to work for social justice. To this end, we recently created a Disability Rights Campaign group. Our original aim for the group was to campaign against the PIP and Universal Credit bill that was proposed to significantly reduce support available to disabled people, but I hope that we can continue to work as a group to support each other and to work on other causes as they come up." At the bottom of the page are two simple illustrations, one showing a brown woman with a prosthetic leg pushing another brown woman in a wheelchair. The other illustration shows two pale yellow people using a megaphone and shaking their fists. "Over the last few months, before the now-renamed Universal Credit bill was passed, we worked together to write two open letters, to Liz Kendall (Secretary of State for Work and Pensions) and Rachel Reeves (Chancellor of the Exchequer). We explained our concerns about the Green Paper released in advance of the bill, and our objections to the proposed bill itself, in both practical and faith-based terms. We also shared some personal stories from members regarding how the proposed cuts would affect us." Two illustrations show a "hidden disabilities" lanyard, and two pale pink people holding a placard and a megaphone. They look to be on a protest. We are glad that the small part we played in the overall campaign against the cuts has contributed to the changes to PIP being removed from the bill and set to be reviewed. However, we are disappointed and concerned that the cuts for new disabled claimants of Universal Credit were passed, as this will seriously impact some of the most vulnerable disabled people and families in our society. Personally, I’m very glad that we have been able to bring this campaign group together, and I hope we will continue to live out our faith through working to support each other and disabled people more generally. What a wonderful moment in #Synod .The terrible "Issues in Human Sexuality" document has been consigned to the recycling bin with huge support across the Synod, in all Houses and constituencies. Glimmers of hope.

And by writing a loving note to any queers unfortunate enough to read the incredibly homophobic and ableist "faith healing" book on the prayer table I found in this gorgeous innocent-looking little chapel

After 6 years and many changes, got a 2:i in my BA in French and Spanish from Oxford! Celebrated with a very very soggy hike
Rainy Cumbria hills. Sorrel is in their powerchair with their back to the camera, waterproof hood up, looking at the viewpoint maps of the hills. Probably to no avail, given the mist and general lack of visibility.

Enjoying reverting to home education pre-exam syllabi. Today I've done German grammar, piano (hymn practice), recorder practice, and started a French novel that nobody is expecting me to write an essay about
