My only stance on public toilets is that you can't have a 'male' toilet and a 'female' toilet.
You can, however, have a men's toilet and a women's toilet.
Obviously you can also have a non-gendered toilet.
But the toilet itself is mute, porcelain, genderless and hopefully hygenic.

Folklore connects hares and bluebells, particularly in Scottish and Irish myths, where the flowers are called harebells. Witches were believed to use the flowers' sap to transform into hares, and then hide among the blooms.

Of course, it’s not irrelevant that Lewis wrote LWWW in the aftermath of WWII, and sets it at its beginning (probably), so it’s not entirely surprising that the Witch’s reign of terror has some fascistic touches, but I hadn’t realised how much Ed sounds like someone going fash out of resentment.

Ok, did not expect “The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe” to feel quite so relevant to this moment.

Here’s Edmund, deciding to side with the leader who he’s been told disappears people.

He did want Turkish Delight and to be a prince (and later a king) and to pay Peter out for calling him a beast. As for what the Witch would do with the others, he didn't want her to be particularly nice to them - certainly not to put them on the same level as himself; but he managed to believe, or to pretend he believed, that she wouldn't do anything very bad to them, 'Because,' he said to himself, 'all these people who say nasty things about her are her enemies and probably half of it isn't true. She was jolly nice to me, anyway, much nicer than they are. I expect she is the rightful Queen really. Anyway, she'll be better than that awful Aslan!' At least, that was the excuse he made in his own mind for what he was doing. It wasn't a very good excuse, however, for deep down inside him he really knew that the White Witch was bad and cruel.

Keeping Up Appearances actor Patricia Routledge dies aged 96

The actor was best known for her role as the pretentious housewife Hyacinth Bucket, and for the series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates Patricia Routledge, the stage and screen actor best known for starring as Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances and Henrietta “Hetty” Wainthropp in the television series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, has died at the age of 96. Routledge was born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, in 1929 and attended the University of Liverpool and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She began her career in theatre and musical theatre in 1952, later making her Broadway debut in 1966 in How’s the World Treating You. Routledge would go on to win a Tony award and an Olivier for her stage work, and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for several years, appearing in productions including Richard III, alongside Antony Sher. Unsolicited writing advice, no. 4783: Place affects every aspect of a story. It shapes your characters, their relationships, their habits, their clothing, their culture, their food. Try thinking of place as a character, and count all the ways you can make your human characters interact with it.

I’ve had a number of arguments on here along these lines:

“ID cards work fine in Europe, why not here?”

They *do* work in Europe, but *not* as immigration enforcement. If Labour want to push them for other uses, then please make that case.

For immigration enforcement? It won’t work.
