I'm sorry but it's just wild we are in the middle of a government shutdown and the House Republicans are REFUSING TO SHOW UP FOR WORK so they can protect billionaire pedophiles and billionaire tax breaks.

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen.

He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.

With science falling under increasing attack, this medical historian is here to remind people of the power of #vaccines. THREAD🧵

Hard-hitting polio advert from 1958. In the first half of the 20th century, polio was the leading cause of death in children and young adults. 1/7
An advertisement for the polio vaccine which reads: "they all got vaccine except dad...don't take a chance...take your polio shots!" It depicts a photo of a family gathered around a father who is in an iron lung.

I know ppl always joke about how it’s impossible to quit a gym but I just quit my gym and they made me fill out a form and walk to the directors office and HAND it to him in person and he frowned at me and said “you don’t like it here?” Should I just die

This is huge: “A drug that provides near-perfect protection against H.I.V. with shots just twice a year will be made available at $40 per patient annually in low- and middle-income countries, offering new hope… making lenacapavir a realistic choice in countries with constrained resources.”

Folks, you can't report the United States to its manager. There's no superhero coming to save us.

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

AUTHORS: Your way of being fairly compensated - and bankrupting OpenAI.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Someone is leaving copies of Fahrenheit 451 in places across DC. 🔥
Few, if any, are doing so elsewhere & that needs to change.
#AltCitizen - if your area has museums, free libraries, or other public areas, please consider slipping a few copies here & there.
Used copies are available online for ~$5.
Fahrenheit 451 is a 1953 dystopian novel by Ray Bradbury that depicts a future American society where books are outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found. The story follows Guy Montag, a fireman who becomes disillusioned with his role in destroying knowledge and eventually joins a group dedicated to preserving literature and rebuilding society. The novel explores themes of censorship, conformity, and the importance of critical thinking and literature in a society dominated by mindless entertainment.

People are always like “you are so good at taking your kids places, you’re always going to fun places!” And this is because I’m awful at having them at home and they are awful at being at home. The only way to live is to constantly be at the zoo or similar.

You know what I find scary? The militarization of cities.

Armed men covering their faces and kidnapping people into unmarked vehicles.

The National Guard on every street corner.

You know what I don’t find scary? Homeless and disabled people, men eating sandwiches and immigrants.
