Back in federal judge Sara Ellis' courtroom in Chicago for a second day of discussion on a proposed restraining order to rein in federal immigration agents' violent behavior.

Debate began on this issue on Monday, and ended without the court entering a formal order.

@unraveledpress.com & other press have been threatened, shot with less-lethals and arrested while reporting on federal immigration activities in Chicagoland and on the resulting protests at Broadview.

I'm now at a hearing asking the federal court to rein ICE & co in. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, yeah, we're suing ICE.

This wasn't really a hard decision. As little faith as we have in institutions, we recognize the value of drawing visible lines in the sand. We drew ours personally a while ago, but better late than never.

May every protester be freed and may this occupation end.

Defense atty for the feds - who is appearing remotely and whose name I missed - claims immigration agents have been attacked, punched, had vehicles hit, etc. Adds the Broadview ICE facility has been "under siege," a term Ellis is skeptical of.

Ellis cuts him off - says nothing in the filing shows the named plaintiffs were doing anything more than "simply expressing their views... or simply doing their jobs, if they're journalists."

Defense attorney rebuts that plaintiffs wouldn't support evidence that hurts their case.

Fed defense attorney's turn: he says protestors have 1A protections, but "they cannot attack law enforcement officers, join in groups thay are engaging in riots..."

Plaintiff attorneys continue that federal agents have attacked press and protestors, incl. with chemical weapons, *because* they don't like the pushback from either reporters or the public.

"If the press wasn't covering this, they could control the message," atty. Jon Loevy says for plaintiffs.

Lawyers for the press and protestor plaintiffs start by saying Trump "effectively declared war on the city of Chicago - and that's not hyperbole."

But they add, "when they came looking for a fight, all they found was small groups of protestors."

Right off the bat, federal judge Sara Ellis finds the govt. shutdown won't effect this hearing as it involves "the safety of human life or the protection of property."

WaPo - The Pentagon's latest revisions of its new rules for journalists covering the DoD are inadequate, says the Pentagon Press Association, auguring a broader rejection by media outlets that have been told they must pledge to adhere to the restrictive regulations. www.washingtonpost.com/busine...

Does anyone else find it almost hilarious that they are going after Comey for “lying to Congress” when every single Trump appointee LIED TO CONGRESS!! They all lied during their interviews and they all lie when they have been called back in to explain themselves!! Why can’t we INDICT THEM??

The same kind of people who once hunted escaped slaves now wear ICE badges. History didn’t vanish, it rebranded.
