At heart, a problem solver. Most often that manifests in my work in software engineering, but I like thinking about anything.

Interests: music, media, running, technology, programming, game theory, geopolitics, design, art and the future.

Stay
David Bowie
1976

The rhythm section of George Murray and Dennis Davis does it for me on this track, in particular Davis’ drum fills. Their funky foundation gave Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick space to let loose.

Building off @cameronwilson.bsky.social's reporting for @crikey.com.au, I highlight how we appear to have a baptist & bootleggers situation in Australia, where it appears the gambling industry was a big force behind the "social media ban for teens" in an effort to kill a plan to ban gambling ads.

People can't let go of the idea that Washington reporters have any interest in holding politicians to account.

They don’t, and we know this because we can observe their actions.

Their goal is to get an on the record response: “Johnson said [xyz]". The contents of the response are irrelevant.
Just to get ahead of this: Print the post out and bring it to the next Mike Johnson presser. You already know what his move will be. There’s no excuse to not be prepared for it.

Zipping back 20 years for this enigmatic track from Aladdin Sane. This song sounds almost like it could be from any era, even one that hasn't happened yet.

Shared with me by my father. So cool how they weave these two melodies together, at times settling into harmonies.

Slip Away
David Bowie

Evocative of his soaring 70s ballads, this track brought a bit of nostalgia to an otherwise emotionally unsettled album.

This ranks on account of the interesting songwriting…in particular, how the pieces are never fully formed until it reaches its crescendos.

Bowie messing with the Philadelphia soul sound. Luther Vandross had a hand in the unique backing vocal arrangements. Love the offbeat groove.

Also the, um, "we should do something about it" part is seriously crazy.
Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

Great to see her enter the race.

Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico are two rising stars in the US left. This raises the profile of both, and no matter who wins, Texas gets a strong candidate.

Contested primaries are great…such an important part of the vetting process.
NEW: Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett has formally launched her bid for a highly sought-after Texas Senate seat, ending months of speculation.

This became a joke in my town. Anytime someone notices a work site and asks what is going in, people are like “probably another car wash”.

I get the appeal of touchless car washes: basically a turnkey business, no staff except the people servicing the equipment. Cash flow.

But FFS; we have enough

The Expos got fucked by the events of 1994. Although my guess is it’s a long shot, I’d like to see a team return to Montréal.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the MLB in Vancouver, Mexico City, and Monterrey. San Juan would be amazing, but it may be too small.

My money is on Charlotte or Vegas.
