I think it’s a reflection of their own attitudes. Both Biden and they were trying to live in a fantasy where those 4 years were a return to normalcy as opposed to the most urgent moment in American history to preserve what was left of democracy.
The reticence on the part of so many to seriously interrogate how often the Biden administration failed in its most basic obligations as a self-stated rearguard for the constitutional order is genuinely bizarre.

While I didn't play a lot of football, I did accumulate a lot of concussions. I've had at least 6. As a result, I have these optic migraines and I lose vision in my left eye.
So some people I knew in HS are surprised I started smoking weed when I grew up, but that's most of the reason why.

Conservatives don't misunderstand the culture, they live within a manufactured culture bubble. It's curated for them, a safe space. They have conservative talk radio, conservative sports stations, conservative movie studios, conservative actors and singers, conservative companies and restaurants.
I used to think these people don't understand art/movies/etc but it's broader than that. They don't understand culture, not even their own. Perhaps that's why they end up with politics with little consistent ideology, just reactionary grievance and whatever this is. Santa's not even an American!

I’m going through my own reclamation of faith right now, and the way that others are falling for what I would classify as the oldest tricks in the book for scamming the spiritually desperate is heartbreaking.
It's weird seeing so many people who you grew up with falling down weird religious/cult rabbit holes. I think that this shows how fundamentally broken society is that so many people will fall for obvious grifts.
