@semaphoria.co.uk I promised a view of the American style Westinghouse 3-aspect signals used on London Underground & here, on the Ealing extension of the Central London Rly/Central line, is such a view c1920. They lasted until 1948 when resignalled to LT satndard. @jeremyzorek.bsky.social

The best part of #trains and #modeltrains is when the real trains look like models and the models look like real trains.

"The first passenger vehicle kit ever..."🤔

I disagree that "Sharps is the word for toffee" but ig back then the word wasn't so associated with used needles.

Monuments you make from "patterns, instructions, and wood provided" Pieces of blank wood back then? Tougher than today's laser-cuts it seems.

I really had to look at the second pic before I was sure this wasn't a model train layout. Sure, it would be a total nightmare to rail rolling stock but this station really looks like a layout-in-a-box. "Model railroad vibes" indeed.

The last V Set might or might not run on 30 January, but either way I was very pleased that one rolled into Lithgow just as I was passing through before Christmas. It will almost certainly be the last time I photograph one in revenue service

The start of the start of the model railroad dockfront, but there's only so much that's safe to do until the electrical is more reliable than it is now.

Model trains and catenaries... a lot easier on the rolling stock than cats.
Had to redo some of my overhead, which was tricky, but working again. Whew!

In Z scale model railroading there is the nudge-no-nudge standard whereby you know you're almost there when you can get trains going with a nudge... but at the same time you know there isn't enough power. So, at this point you start messing with stuff... redoing stuff... tearing up stuff. We'll see.

Stargate: Atlantis: Dr. Weir looks deep into the camera and tells the loved ones of those who have been lost on secret missions they can't be told about, and then they go on to play swelling, dramatic music and show action highlights of the main characters, who weren't the ones who were lost.🤔

The other thing the wonderbox won't do for you unless you know enough to ask (no, you can't just say "make it production ready code") are things like final variables. Did you really mean to say we'll have to restart the whole program to change the logpath? Yes! In most cases b/c otw we'd have to ...

So a project my father in law and I have been working on. My dad gave me this train, it's a 1927 Lionel Train that his dad, my grandfather got when he was 7. Here's the before and after, even ran batteries for the lights. My son is really excited with it.

I used the wondermachine to help write a program which was good in the sense you get to talk through the requirements more than the usual pick templates > one clicking > custom logic > bunch of config way of doing things, but ugh it still really is a lot slower and so much bad code. #programming

If you haven't seen these wooden kits of locomotives or a lot of other things, they're fairly amazing.
Made more progress on the locomotive: built the tank and started building the cab. So far, everything fits, no glue was required, and it's an interesting change from the detailed paper work. #woodcraft #train #scalemodel #histscalemodels
