My short story The Red Shoes is about a young girl with necromancer magic, on her own, desperately trying to reconnect with a loved one while running from villagers who blame her for the plague ravaging the countryside. #magic #necromancy #death #skeletons

I love when someone's driving like they want to be the Main Character Of The Highway, and then I get level with them and their car is all mangled. It makes the Correlation Goblin in my brain that conjures demons from my popcorn ceiling at night sit up and shriek "PATTERN!! PATTERN ESTABLISHED!!"

That sounds fun! Have a great time!

Seeking ARC Readers for New Historical Mystery Thriller!

I’m proud to have edited this book by Thomas Knight. It’s an engaging, thrilling page-turner with a strong female protagonist. DM me if you're interested in receiving an #ARCCopy of this book.

I know.
The world is devastating right now.
But so is this, and it's art.
I love both.
(Maybe we can still love the devastated - even as we resist devastation?)
“She said she knew we were safe with you, and always would be, because once, when she asked you to, you'd given up the thing you most wanted.”

Archer received this strange communication in silence. His eyes remained unseeingly fixed on the thronged sunlit square below the window.

At length he said in a low voice: “She never asked me.”

Helping my friends at All Worlds Wayfarer with their dark fantasy anthology Into the Dark has been eye-opening 👁️

I’ve learned a ton about what makes stories stand out.

Sharing those lessons in Saturday’s update. Writers, these are things we don't think about!

manuscript out of a window.

While Beowulf was one of the lucky few to survive the fire, it still carries the scorch marks of that night.

It was another 55 years before a second copy of the poem was transcribed and we realized just how old and special it really is!

We almost lost the Middle-English Poem Beowulf to fire!

Buried in the private Cotton library, the only copy of Beowulf was never truly studied.

Then in 1731, a fire destroyed Ashburnham House & most of the library. In a desperate attempt to save the codex a heroic librarian flung the smoking ⬇️
A badly burned manuscript page of the poem Beowulf. Ashburnham House, the building where the private Cotton Library was kept containing the only copy of Beowulf. It burned in 1731. Most of the books went up in flames, but a few were saved.
