Boston has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever
we get 60m dollars worth of tea from China every year. baby, they are literally doing a 104% tax on tea in the United States
sure this sounds bad but remember this nation was founded on the principle of cheerfully tolerating large surtaxes on imported goods

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

If you're boycotting the US so that the American people suffer, rather than to pressure the government and large corporations into changing the political path we're on, you're doing sadism, not activism.

International boycotts of US goods doesn't mean individual Americans should stop trying to make ends meet actually.
But you *are* deliberately trying to mitigate the effects of the boycott, thereby reducing its effectiveness.

the Dems are all like "what are we supposed to do????" and I think the wildly positive reaction to Cory Booker right now should send the signal loud and clear "literally fucking anything, just do SOMETHING instead of sitting there"

No, Democrats, these little auction signs aren't it. You're acting like Wes Anderson characters who don't understand that they're in a Tarantino movie.

The thing that everyone thinks is nuts, but I absolutely think would work: a presentation that looked like an Apple keynote product launch, but for all the cool shit that the government makes for people. Cancer treatments, national parks, space discoveries, free tax filing, cool new airports.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

Weird and wrong beliefs that humanity held onto for way longer than we should have.

These days we enlightened denizens look back on those simpletons and giggling fools of old and tut-tut at their hilarious beliefs.

Here's some stuff we got wrong until recently.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Think about what daily, hourly chaos does to the ability to make *any* kind of plan for the future, shrinking time horizons that have already been shortened by existing marginalizations

The people most affected by that chaos, are the ones who are already trapped in an eternal present.

This seems very bad.
Several conversations today w people in the key executive departments. And while the particulars are hard to pin down my impression is that the Musk take over stuff is considerably worse than is being presented in the press. By this I don’t necessarily things they *done* yet but the level of …

I like to sew. The first step is cutting out the pieces of fabric. Alone, each one is just a useless scrap. But when stitched together, they create something really cool, or helpful, or beautiful, or all of the above.

All of us are “cut out” for it…But we can only do it together.
Not sure I’m cut out for this.

Looking to the future, the greatest challenge America faces is the lawlessness and recklessness of the new executive branch and the total fealty the president commands in the Republican party. Seems to me there ought not be any role for bipartisanship in what’s coming. bsky.app/profile/schu...
It is time to look to the future.

The challenges that face America are many and great.

The Senate must respond with resolve, bipartisanship, and fidelity to the working and middle class of this country.
