CHOTINER: This game you like to play, what's it called?

ME: Slay the Spire.

CHOTINER: And you play it on the computer?

ME: Yeah. Well, I also have it on my phone. I played another 300 hours.

CHOTINER: And these other games in your Steam library. Have you finished them?

ME: Now hold on a second,

my favorite robert redford story is that mike nichols considered him for dustin hoffman's part in THE GRADUATE. during their conversation nichols asked redford something like, "have you ever struck out with a girl?" and redford's response was basically, "i don't understand the question"

Jewish Insider, the magazine which yesterday called the professional antisemite Charlie Kirk a bulwark against antisemitism, has released an article attacking Isaac Chotiner for being "obsessed with Israel" and for "tripping up" Israel supporters with leading and interrogative questions.
Isaac Chotiner, The New Yorker's interrogator out to trip up Israel supporters
Chotiner recently devoted six consecutive Q&A interviews with guests about Israel, many of them contentious and combative

the ruling liberal Democratic Party of Korea elected its new party leader last weekend and I don't think he's a fan of the opposition party whose leader and ex-president launched a failed coup biz.chosun.com/en/en-policy...
Throughout the election period, Representative Jung maintained a hardline stance against the opposition. On this day, he also emphasized, 'Is it possible to achieve substantial cooperation with the forces that actually intended to kill President Lee Jae-myung and Jung Cheong-rae, Park Chan-dae, and Kim Min-seok?' and stated, 'Dealing with the internal rebellion should come first before cooperation.'

He targeted the People Power Party, saying, 'The internal rebellion party must be dissolved and its roots must be cut off. We are currently in a war against rebellion,' and added, 'I will push forward with judicial, media, and legal reforms like a storm and tackle them with lightning speed.'

He said, 'There is no victory without a fight, and there is no stability without victory,' and continued, 'I will handle the fighting, so the president should just focus on work. I will take on the dirty and dangerous work of fighting, and the flowers and fruits of cooperation, integration, and stability will be credited to President Lee Jae-myung.'

He defined the People Power Party as an unconstitutional party and mentioned that it is subject to a constitutional court ruling for party dissolution. He also proposed the establishment of a special committee for the eradication of rebellious forces as a tenth innovative pledge. This indicates his intention to continue the offensive against the People Power Party.

anyway I hate them for reducing me, for reducing us, to this. I have no illusions about the necessity of it right now, or how things were in the past, but it's still a degradation from how things were even in the comparatively recent past. I hate the politics of eternity and the death of the future.

is there any more failed strategy than Democratic Party entryism

people get really mad and defensive if you say this but it's been clear for an extremely long time but especially after the 2020 election that this party can't be reformed from the inside or out

imagine if we spent the last 15 years organizing for an independent labor party that could seize this particular moment with both hands. makes me want to (redacted)

A somewhat hot take: the intense localism of U.S. politics is bad, generates both nepotism and other forms of corruption, and shuts out talent because they happen to have been born in a very red area or state. More people should move and run for office!

oh my god Ken klippenstein’s latest story is that these pentagon leaks are all part of an evil plot by the military to unfairly take down Pete Hegseth
Uniformed military officers and Pentagon officials I've talked to agree with this assessment, and they agree that those trying to defeat Hegseth are operating dangerously outside their lane. As one said to me over the weekend, "you can't say you're defending your oath and the Constitution while working to undermine it."
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that "the entire Pentagon is working against" Hegseth. Whatever you think of Hegseth or the hyperbole, this is not good for America.

"the state can just summarily imprison someone without filing charges or holding a trial" doesn't just overturn democracy it overturns 1000 years of common law, like throwing out the entire legal system entirely and saying all people in America are the state's property.

They continue to violate a court order to retrieve someone they illegally deported.

We’re now well beyond a constitutional crisis. If they’re allowed to do this, their secret police can sweep up anyone, for any reason, deport them & refuse to bring them back.

That would be the end of democracy.

Those accused of witchcraft got trials. Not necessarily fair ones, but there *was* a hearing.
