I think US fascists were so far up their own ass that they believed their own BS: “everybody really wants brutal undemocratic rule! They’re pretending to love democracy bc Soros is secretly paying them through USAid and universities!”

And now they’re shocked and scared of the truth.

Great point from @mjtoma.bsky.social: Millions of us absolutely do see what's happening to the USA.

"We are horrified, shocked, enraged, and ashamed. We are acting, in a thousand ways, to oppose it. This cannot, and will not, be how the United States ends."

From day one this has been the plan. The shutdown is only their latest move in this sick game.

Republicans want to dismantle the federal government and repurpose it to serve only the billionaires.

Republicans shut down the government because they don’t want people to be able to afford health care.

Now, they’re firing patriotic civil servants because what? They don’t want Americans to have jobs?!

This will hurt countless Americans who rely on government services.

Breaking news: The Trump administration began laying off federal workers while the government is shuttered, fulfilling threats from President Trump to take advantage of the closure to shave off more parts of the federal workforce he dislikes.

Q: "How many layoffs have you authorized?"

Trump: "A lot. It will be Democrat oriented...They should be Democrat oriented. It will be a lot and we'll announce the numbers over the next couple of days, but it will be a lot of people...Many of them will be fired."

You’ll never guess who is in charge of the Homeland Security Council….

NEW: A senior ICE official testified today the WH Homeland Security Council — and not the State Department — informed him Uganda was the deportation target for Abrego Garcia.

DOJ then asserted presidential privilege over any other details about the call. www.wusa9.com/article/news...

When masked government thugs take potshots at a priest, it’s no longer America.

Leo has done two things recently that interest me very much. this is one of them. I didn’t know much about the last Pope Leo until the new one, but I believe he was an Industrial Revolution-era guy who took poverty and workers’ rights really seriously

Soooooo I'm not an expert. But when there was pushback against it & people took to calling Roosevelt and others who supported it communist, he did this public address basically saying anyone who said caring for the poor was stupid and anti-Christian & calling it communism was propaganda for the rich
  "The assertion that President
Roosevelt is closely associated
with or supported by prominent
Communists is utterly without
foundation, as is the charge that
he is a communist himself. Both
accusations are ugly, cowardly
and flagrant calumnies. They are
violations of the Eighth Com-
mandment ... Today in America,
as in every other great industrial
country the opponents of neces-
sary and just legislation for the
weaker economic classes, en-
deavor to discredit these meas-
ures by fastening upon them
labels which frighten the timid,
the ignorant and the uncritical. It
is a very ancient but, in the long
run, a very stupid device."
ROOSEVELT
SAFEGUARDS AMERICA

delivered October 8th, 1936, by
Rt. Rev. JOHN A. RYAN, D. D., of
the Catholic University of America,
at Washington, D. C., follows ...

Because I love justice and hate iniquity; be-
cause I love honesty and hate deception; because
I love truth and hate lies,-I am making tonight
what is liable to be called a political speech. It is
not that. It is mainly a discussion of certain polit-
ical events in the light of the moral law.
I take up first the despicable assertion that the
President of the United States is a Communist.
Men who make and repeat this charge apparently
believe that during a political campaign the
Eighth Commandment should be suspended,
abolished, thrown out the window. For the bene-
fit of my non-Catholic hearers, I observe that in
the Catholic version of the Ten Commandments,
the Eighth is: "Thou shalt not bear false witness
against thy neighbor." Men who believe the ac-
cusation of Communism against the President
because they want to believe it or because they
are too lazy to investigate it, are guilty of rash
judgment. Their sin is only one degree less than
the sin of those who utter and spread the con-
temptible accusation. The amount of false asser-
tions that have been accepted as true in this cam-
paign by persons who in other situations are
