Hammon would have been the first female NBA head coach ever; instead she went on to win 3 titles and 1 Coach of the Year Award with the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces. Billups, on the other hand, went 117/211 with the Blazers and appears to have been illegally rigging bets for the Mafia 😂😂.
Yet another chance to remind everyone that, in 2021, the Trailblazers had the chance to hire Becky Hammon (a 6x WNBA champion with 7 years' assistant coaching experience) as head coach, but instead went with Chauncey Billups, who had barely a year of assistant coaching experience.
Billups, Rozier arrested in gambling investigations
Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Heat guard Terry Rozier have been arrested as part of a pair of investigations related to illegal sports betting and rigged poker games backed by the Mafia, au...

It's genuinely depressing that there is really no one in either party in America arguing that immigration is actually a good thing. The differences between Dems and Repubs right now on this issue are only in how draconian the militarisation of the border should be.
When will be ready for honest pragmatic conversation about human mobility and citizenship in a changing world — rather than demonising parts of our population? #NomadCentury
Six percent of *all children* in America are US citizens who have at least one undocumented parent.

(Not a typo, source in thread)
The Attorney General of Texas just declared transgenderism a form of "leftist terrorism" while America's leading political pundits are mired in a conversation about why the Left needs to turn the temperature down in our political discourse.
Citing the “martyrdom” of Charlie Kirk, Texas AG Ken Paxton says his office is pursuing sweeping undercover investigations into “leftist” groups. “To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
My excitement when a new big band announces a tour is instantly dampened by my remembering what it's like to try and get tickets to big tours in 2025.
Why does "turning the temperature down" in our political discourse only ever involve lionising people who have spent their entire careers creating division and turning the temperature up?
David Ellison’s note to staff on Paramount’s acquisition of the Free Press
At least 4 times a day I struggle to manage the crosstalk between earbuds, Bluetooth speaker, laptop, and phone. Take a guess how many times that happened when listening to something involved plugging a cable into an 1/8" port!
It's pretty neat that we didn't even need to wait for Bluetooth to work properly for it to be the only way to listen to anything!
This is clearly serious and scary but also just so sad. I continue to be amazed at how pathetic the vision of masculinity at the core of the MAGA movement is. Just the most try hard, cartoonish, insecure take on manhood. As a parody of toxic masculinity this would be mocked as way too heavy handed.
Hegseth: "No more dudes in dresses. No more climate change worship ... we are done with that shit."
Sometimes I start to see reasons for optimism for Democrats in future elections. Then I see one of these fundraising emails...
All those years spent listening to Terry Gross talk to Yo-Yo Ma about his childhood while my mom dropped me off at school, I had no idea I was being indoctrinated by Antifa the whole time.
NPR: “Regarding Antifa…”
TRUMP: “Who are you with?”
NPR: “NPR.”
TRUMP: “You’re still here? Won’t be for long… does Antifa have anything to do with your network?”
"We had a polite policy disagreement about whether or not gay folks should be stoned to death, but he still seemed like a solid dude!"
The number of public figures saying "I didn't agree with most of his views" when the views in question included that broad swaths of the population should be excluded from society or just outright killed.
From an Atlantic editor.

I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!
I was so excited when I saw his ep drop in my feed and now that I finished it I just feel exhausted.
It's just not good enough for electeds on the left to say that they "disagreed with" Kirk's views. Saying gay people should be stoned to death and that air disasters are caused by Black pilots--these are not political disagreements. They are attacks on the basic humanity of our fellow human beings.

We simply cannot live in a country where the death of hate mongers is a tragedy and the death of everyone else only warrants a shrug.

I am genuinely confused by all this pageantry. He was not an elected official. I cannot think of another time a regular citizen being killed garnered this response. It’s perverse.
Jesus christ what is wrong with Democrats

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.
Not sure if y'all take requests but this feels like a perfect @switchedonpop.bsky.social topic!
It's easy to speculate some reasons why this might be true...recording is less costly than ever, artists need more content for live shows since that's the only place they make money, digital albums have essentially no reproduction costs.
Am I just old, or are albums way longer than they used to be? Anecdotally it really feels like most new albums I check out are 14-17 tracks long while 8-10 felt like the standard for CDs and the early digital era. But I haven't seen much reporting on it which makes me wonder if it's my imagination?
