We will have about 13,000 in 2025. About half will be allowed stay. I don't think 6,500 extra people in a population of 5 million is a threat to "social cohesion". Not being able to afford a home or to see a doctor or not having to wait 3 years for my kid's needs to be assessed is.

For always and forever, the time I saw Lord of the Rings in a packed Savoy in Dublin, 2000 people. Super tense bit were Frodo is holding the ring and shit is happening. Couldn't even hear a breath, 'til one lad couldn't take it anymore.
"Release the ring, Frodo! RELEASE THE BLEEDIN' RING!!"
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Note: Only 18,561 people applied for asylum in 2024. That’s 0.003% of the population. Which means 99.997% of the population are not asylum seekers. Remember this is a “record high”.

Indeed, fair dues when it's due etc
I think we MAY gotta hand it to Jennifer Carroll Macneill on this one and this one only.

First year selling my art at Christmas without the Other site, where most of my sales came from, as well as losing US orders to new tariffs, so it'll be a tough one - I put huge work into every order, so even if you can't buy, shares help get them in front of eyes. GRMA! www.ciaraioch.com/artprints

This is a really nice piece in Hot Press about how we're differently to other businesses and why. It'd be great if you could read and share. My perhaps naive hope is that a big business might see it and copy us. It works. #speirgorm www.hotpress.com/lifestyle-sp...

Awful news… Only started listening to (and loving!) 2XM’s Click Clack several months ago, and was sooo impressed by its wonderfully curated playlists and news on local gigs (went to BIG BRAVE at Whelan’s after hearing them on the show).

Legacy media continues to collapse. Support independent doers!
Sad to say, it eked out it's notice as long as possible but RTE have decided @rte2xm is finally to shut up shop. Last day will be Dec 31. Will get in as many Click Clacks as possible before then, do tune in, and gimme a show elsewhere!

Sorry to hear this - people put a load of work into their shows on RTE's digital stations! I hosted a show, Sweet Oblivion, on 2XM from 2009 till around 2011 (?). (When I started it was unpaid work if I remember correctly!)
So, it's been officially announced: after 19 years on the online airwaves, RTÉ is to close four of its five digital radio stations, including 2XM, on New Year's Eve.

Eloquently put, especially the end point. Support local things, because bit by bit it's all getting taken away.
