While the Cacowards continued in 2009, NewDoom, one of the longest running Doom websites, finally shuttered for good but not before releasing the 'NewDoom Community Project 2.' Despite a very buggy initial release, many members worked to make it bug-free in 2025. www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/...

Good lord, seeing someone squeeze Quake 1 onto DS homebrew back in the day was insane enough, the hardware splintering under its weight. Now we've got Jedi Knight on the DSi?!?!? Wonders never cease.
OpenJKDF2 v0.9.7 is up at github.com/shinyquagsir..., including the new DSi and Android builds 🎉

Looking back on the 2008 Cacowards is bittersweet; You have 'Escape from Castle Chezcrea' by Paul Hiebert which hasn't aged a day when compared to modern wads, and 'Back to Basics' by Esa Repo who passed away the following year.

Out of interest, since I fell out of touch with it: Has anything cool been happening in the realm of #Doom Eternal modding after the official SDK release? Looks like some cool stuff on the mod workshop, but I'm sure somebody's closer to it and knows more. Pic old and unrelated.

NEW: I just got off the phone with a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson who confirmed Warner Bros. Games is included in the Netflix deal.

I asked whether they would discuss plans for the division, but they refused to elaborate further at this point in time.
Yes, Netflix is acquiring Warner Bros. Games
A Warner Bros. spokesperson has confirmed the video game division will be acquired by Netflix alongside its wider streaming and television business.

By 2007 it was clear that rumors of the Doom community's death had been greatly exaggerated. With releases like Songs of the Damned by Trevor Primmett and The Outer Darkness by Varun Abhirama Krishna, Doom modding wasn't going anywhere.

Oh neat. Not perfect, but better than the current state of affairs.

The Vault levels in the Blood re-remaster are very cool, have some neat concepts I'd like to see modern mappers revisit, and are occasionally very funny. Volume warning, by the way.

I feel like this is less Sweeney, who seems oddly embarrassed of the past (with the exception of ZZT) and more a lot of the people lower down the totem pole pushing to honor a respectable history. The OldUnreal stuff specifically credits a community manager at Epic for a lot of the mountain moving.
You get SOME things right, Sweeney.
Looks like UT2004 is gonna get the OldUnreal treatment - Epic-endorsed community patching and a free installer. The OldUnreal versions of Unreal Gold and UT99 are very good, so this is great news! old.reddit.com/r/unrealtour...

Horrid news. I remember him from Sonic forums back in the day, and always got a little buzz seeing his writing in print, seeing one of the old hands made good. Was genuinely honored when he briefly interviewed me over Twitter DMs a few years ago for an article on Doom port stuff.

Vale. 🫡
This is absolutely heartbreaking news.

In 2006 Vae Victus 2 by Derek Braun, and IC2005 by Ian Cunnings were both lauded as two of the best maps of the year. Both of these represented the last of a series and their respective author's final creative works for Doom.
