LA’s Metro Center station was built around the same time as Westlake station!

Westlake station originally was supposed to also have its own 5th Avenue headhouse in addition to the building integrated entrances.

I just can't get over the differences in scale between Ballard Link's Westlake Station as proposed and the original Westlake Station, off to the left.

Ballard Link's Westlake has two separate entrances underneath separate buildings, with one showing a long tunnel to get to the train guideway. They are at least five stories deeper than the original Westlake, which is tiny and only around 10-15% of the size

The Addison CTA Red Line station, which is a local stop, used to have side platforms facing the express tracks, with the local tracks running through without stopping. This meant that local trains had to awkwardly shimmy onto the express tracks to serve the station.

I’ve posted about it before. While a report and map were presented to city council and the report is online, neither the City Archives nor the Providence Public Library has the map.

Contemporary media included a simple map of the plan.

Nine years after it was first proposed, Providence was still trying to work out building a 4 line subway. Would have gone to the Red Bridge, North Burial Ground, Olneyville, and Trinity Square.

Imagine the city we would have now if there'd been a will to get it done 103 years ago.

An article about how surface trolley cars would be put in a subway under downtown Providence with the plan, including detailed routing under downtown.
