The Metro Tunnel in Melbourne is complete!

This morning, my friends and I jumped on the first train at Sunshine at 9.53am. I gave them a tour of all five stations.

I did not have a chance to take pictures then, but I came back later, at 6.45pm, and took the last service of the day towards Sunbury.

Whenever we ride public transit, whether it’s a train in Bangkok or a bus in Bothell, she often asks me “how many stops until we get off?”

So I appreciate the station numbering system in use by a many systems in Asia and here in Seattle.

Hey @kezl.bsky.social sorry for the unsolicited ping but what's the protocol for folks (i.e. me) who won't be able to make the MFF transit panel next weekend but *can* make the Blue Line ride afterward?

Merging the M50 and M53 on the Amsterdam Metro is probably a good thing in terms of frequency and efficiency but if I lived on the M53 I’d still be grumpy about losing the one-seat ride to Centraal.

Drawing another express bus fantasy map, like the ones I did for Chicago and Seattle last year.

The force-me-to-draw-a-fantasy-map-of-X-city polls I’d do when I was really bored are the only thing I miss about Twitter.

Suddenly reminded that the sad-professor-who-sleeps-with-students litfic cliche is so old and outdated that DFW (who, it must be said, is an example of precisely how difficult, unpleasant, and loathsome that sort of character can be in real life) was roasting the crap out of it in *2001.*

Back to this point, by way of example, the Peterson Museum charges $18 to park in their garage, on top of admission. You can get out of paying if you spend at least $75 in the gift shop.

The museum is right next to the Wilshire/Fairfax Metro station, which should have opened 25 years ago.
Los Angeles, it turns out, has a very interesting solution to this particular problem called "Make It Cost $15 To Park Literally Anywhere."
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.

I’m going to assume the weird reverse branch the Salt Lake City Red Line has to U of U makes sense given metro-area commuting patterns but God does it still make my teeth itch.

Thinking about the hip hop station we listened to in LA where the playlist was 90s/00s hip hop, When Rap Was Good or whatever, and one of those hits was Shake That by Eminem and Nate Dogg.

Which, OK, Nate Dogg saves that thing, but if you’re familiar with where Marshall was at when it was released…

It's painful to read plans from a century ago that perfectly formulate how to build a world class transit system yet today we still need years of redundant studies to even build a bus lane
