My father told us about going to a Chinese restaurant when he first emigrated to the USA.
Unaware the dishes had been modified for Caucasians, he asked the waiter why the food was "so strange."

But often I suspect he has a mild case of hoarders disorder. (This is the guy who suggested I make sock puppets out of ones I wanted to toss.)
This makes cleaning difficult when it comes to the inevitability that things will be thrown out.
