Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

I saw it at Film Forum around the time of its 50th anniversary and was blown away. The extras on the Criterion release are amazing. Still packs a wallop.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

The George Romero-supervised restoration of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) from MoMA and The Film Foundation is now on Netflix.

It's also on Criterion Channel, but it's nice to see such a significant (and subversive) indie classic on the largest subscription streaming service in the US. #FilmSky

It’s such a great restoration and so needed after the avalanche of endless dicey public domain home video versions

Post a fictional comedian who definitely would accept an invitation to the Riyadh Comedy Festival.

Another day, another PBS affiliate lost. But this time it’s a whole state.

NJ PBS will go dark in July, 2026 unless new funding can be found.

The state-wide network of channels has served New Jersey for more than 50 years.

So @jimmykimmel.com's first words back tonight--"As I was saying..."-- were an homage to Tonight Show host Jack Paar, who used those words when he returned after walking out on his show in a censorship dispute with NBC. From 65 years ago:
