Important perspective here.
I think the shortest version of why LLMs are an anti education technology is that education is fundamentally about making shared context to understand ourselves, each other, and the world

And by design LLMs destroy shared context

It has been pointed out to me that this means 2.5 billion-dollar AI music company Suno has spent less money on music than many individual music fans
Billboard got access to Suno’s investment pitch deck.

It revealed that Suno has spent $32 million on compute, and $2,000 on training data.

Let that sink in.

The issues with AI and education are vast, and I appreciate that this story aims to engage with that complexity, but it misses the mark in so many ways by boiling it down to two competing ideas, 1) "AI is here to stay" and will transform the job market and 2) AI is bad for critical thinking. 1/8

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

“for the good of humanity” 🫠

these guys need to be shunned from society
“The Sam Altman-founded company behind the ‘Orb,’ a volleyball-sized metal sphere that scans irises to prove people's humanity, had a message for employees: work weekends and ignore anything outside your job — for the good of humanity.”
Sam Altman's eye-scanning Orb startup told workers not to care about anything outside work
Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania said that "if you should care about something else, and if you want something else, you should just not be here."

It's wild* how Pichai's takeaway from realizing his bubble's wobbling is "prop up AI!" & not "gosh why do we keep weaving speculative hype through fundamental systems to the almost sole benefit of the already-wealthy, & what does that say about our economic system?"

Non-industry compromised scientists keep saying these models don't become safe, no matter what, but people keep thinking just because the concept of guardrails is mentioned it must work. By definition, it doesn't. This is not something open to discussion, unless you're a paid shill.
