“In the new year, we’ll be launching our guide for GPs to help with the diagnosis, management, and treatment of Long Covid.”

This is good, it’s badly needed in NZ.

IMO this piece could’ve been stronger in its recs for prevention & more inclusive of other LC conditions, but I’m happy to see it.
Comment from Victoria University: The easiest way to prevent others contracting Long Covid is to stay home when sick, and for govt to increase paid leave

How much is a life worth? What about that of a baby? A friend?

For too long, the current Government - led by Luxon, Seymour and Peters - have prioritised money and corporate donors/lobbyists over the lives of everyday Kiwis.

Please share and help spread awareness. Thanks, Tui.

Such callous disregard for the public. Those in privileged positions better able to isolate without needing state support will fare much better than those already struggling to survive in this shoulder shrug reaction to new pandemics.
Reality is, it will likely be airborne.

And if you can’t believe the NHS would publish something categorically stating that “it would be a waste of public health resources & capacity” to attempt to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus…

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories. - Gil Duran #nzpol

If "pressure on household budgets" is the government's justification for setting rates caps of two to four per cent then there's zero excuse for not setting rent increase caps on landlords at the same level.

Disabled people were one of the first groups targeted by the Nazis.

They coined the term “useless eaters”.

They tested the gas chambers on us.

They knew most people wouldn’t fight to save our lives.

That’s why the President using the R slur is so dangerous.

NZ is now several steps behind every comparable jurisdiction on social media regulation.

We don’t need blanket bans for under-16s. We need:
• a regulator
• enforceable duties of care
• penalties for platforms who ignore NZ law

Delay has gendered consequences.

As I was alluding on this platform about a year ago over a refreshing bowl of Maggi Soup, embedding advertising in natural seeming conversations is pretty inevitable when extracting maximum value from the systems where there are no consumer guard-rails around quality or truth.
The end goal of advertising is to make it indistinguishable from one’s own wants and needs. That aim is finally going to be realized very soon.

I especially feel this when sociologists who study technology do this.

Y'all are supposed to take sociotechnical approaches to the study of technology. A throwaway AI-generated image does not help that credibility.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.
