NJ Transit rail service is in need of a schedule refresh.
Today we have US transit data for all of 2025, & DC's WMATA was officially the fastest-growing major US agency, with ridership up 8.7%!

The LIRR (NY, 6.4%), King County Metro (Seattle, +6.5%) & SEPTA (Philly, +4.7%) performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit lost riders🧵

The White House is holding this project hostage—unconstitutionally, as it was funded by Congress—because:
(a) it followed contracting rules the Trump admin doesn’t like, but which were the law when the project was contracting.
(b) Sen. Schumer likes the project.
(c) Something, something immigration.

The highly persistent "Warm West/Cool East" pattern will continue across continental U.S., as part of the broader "Warm Arctic/Cold Continents" pattern in Northern Hemisphere, for at least another 7-10 days. Extreme Western U.S. warmth & Eastern U.S. cold will continue. [Thread]

The insistence of 2 bridges seems to follow trend of any new major bridge built in the NYC metro area in recent times being 2 separate bridges: Goethals, Kosciuszko, Tappan Zee (Cuomo).

Delays like this will become more frequent - and impact more riders - the longer we rely on the North River Tunnel. We need to complete the Hudson Tunnel Project as soon as possible to deliver reliable, modern rail infrastructure that riders can count on.

Why I keep harping on spending $10B on new PABT when you could do this and shift many of those bus riders (who are also not going to Midtown West as their final destination anyway) over to a way more efficient mode of transit.
Want to get depressed on a Thursday evening? Grab some scotch and look at old "original intent" maps of transit systems.

Here is PATH from the 70s-- right after the Port Authority took over the struggling system. Imagine what the region would look like today if this were implemented. 😥

Is it now planning on using some A321XLR for transcon flights instead? The weird new "Coastliner" name would suggest that.

Funding has been off since October. This should be a complete national scandal on top of all other national scandals. The administration is holding our money hostage while they make up new rules.
Work on the Hudson River Rail tunnel will end on February 6 if federal funding isn’t restored, Gateway Project officials said this morning.

The Trump regime cut off funding last year in the early hours of the government shutdown.
