New intro time! Hi!

I'm the Anime & Manga editor for @inbetweendrafts.bsky.social, where I also co-host Rookie Pirate Radio, our podcast that is mostly about One Piece but not exclusively.

When I'm not doing that I sometimes write for my game blog Hidden Levels, and I also like TCGs too much!

so it's starting to feel like the Steam Machine is Valve hedging certain bets that people are just *not* going to be able to build computers
Crucial is shutting down — because Micron wants to sell its RAM and SSDs to AI companies instead. It’s already getting hard to build an affordable PC, and the exit of the longstanding provider of consumer memory is going to make that even more challenging www.theverge.com/news/837594/...

Within six months games have gone from being a relatively free mode of expression to being unable to publish and sell a horror game because the storefronts caught a bad vibe-and gamers are justifying it w/ "well it shouldn't have the [content that isn't in the fucking game] if it wanted to be sold"

tbh valve's overarching principle for steam is "do not make us do work"
Game makers want to push the medium forward, but Valve's overarching principle for adult content is "Do not make us do work." This stance is incompatible with a view that games are art, which can be difficult to love, but still make valid artistic statements

The only examples I can find this ass take pointing to is 1) service dogs on planes and 2) extra test time and one of these things have certifications attached to them that is not unreasonable to check for and the other strictly falls into "who gives a shit."
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

spending money on something shouldn't really be considered action but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't inclined to just slap down the five bucks on Horses just to flip off the cowards at Valve and the nerds at Epic

Genuinely angry at this revelation. They can't even give enough of a shit to try to hide it.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!

Steam intentionally killing an old, respected, and beloved decade old indie game studio through bullshit policy is fucking wild
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...
