How long has GO train weekend service from Kitchener been needed? Well, I wrote this 14 years ago, before the weekday commuter-only service first started:
High Demand for Weekend GO Trains
Recently we made a short survey regarding GO Transit service available through our social media networks. It was described as being about the service extension, and we avoided describing its purpose. ...

Wow, big crowd out here in Guelph for the first weekend train. Lots of happy commuters and families going to Toronto for the day.

Thanks to everyone who pushed to convince Metrolinx that there is demand for weekend service.

"ION reflects a long-term vision by our regional government across multiple councils. It’s an investment in mobility for the future. We can’t keep growing around cars, and ION helps with growing the region up and not out." Can't argue with this statement from @tritag.ca

If Waterloo Region is serious about ION expansion, they need to be serious about starting to implement the Grand River Transit business plan. Cuts to core routes and wrapping ION trains with ads isn't it.
Proposed GRT cuts are short-sighted, residents say

And yet… ridership is above pre-pandemic. The city is growing around ION. It’s working!
