Flooding is generally human induced rather than a pure ‘natural disaster’ (water just follows gravity and geography). The design and engineering problems are well understood. It’s the political economy that is blocking adaptation.

This drastically conflicts with ‘free market’ open season on semi rural land aquisition where suburban tract homebuilders can just bulldoze through wetlands and plop asphalt on top, with stormwater managed with small pipes according to late 20th C estimates of rainfall.

other day i saw two people pass each other & just high five on the way. pals. nbd. & i realised i can't relate to that at all anymore. the last time i unexpectedly saw one of my friends in real life i threw my arms wide and screamed (and she reciprocated). running into a friend is a privilege lol
