If you’re a Dennis Showalter fan, you need this book. Period.

Dad LOVED stuff like this. As an educator he also believed that connecting contemporary things like Star Wars to how history works as a field was critical for undergrads.

He would have loved this project
For those who enjoy ebooks on Kindle, it seems that 'Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire' is *massively* discounted today down to $1.99 in the US and £7.99 in the UK. Which feels like a pretty good deal really.

When I think about it in the abstract, the enormous time-sink of working on this vast edited book on Rome since 1870 feels like a pain

but when I am reading the amazing chapters by our brilliant contributors I get really excited about it, it is going to be absolute🔥

Tfw when you find a whole file on the person you're researching in the archive only it's in the 'closed indefinitely pending works' portion of the Archivio Centrale dello Stato so who knows if you'll ever get to see it

Making tea last night in a state of tiredness I managed to pour boiling water all over my wrist. It's remarkably painful and super irritating.

On the other hand, having a flask of hot tea on my early train this icy morning is really amazing.

Roma & Arsenal both top of their respective leagues... an excellent weekend.

it won't last, obviously, because football is about wretchedness and disappointment, but still.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

Absolute rancid, foetid scum, profiteering off of naivety and fear, to push women into the situation of hundreds of years ago, where a significant percentage of all births ended in a death.
Long read but worth it. Interesting that 'sovereign' is used, becoming accepted shorthand for a certain type of online influenced person?

I don't think it will be long before ChatGPT etc are implicated in women making birth choices like those described in here.
