The allegations were so widely known that British/American comedian Jerry Sadowitz used to have a whole section in his routine in the mid-80s about Savile being a paedophile. His album Gobshite was withdrawn due to threats from Savile's lawyers but Sadowitz still made the accusation in live sets.
