It's funny to have to make this case but tbqh we don't make it enough: human efforts to counter fossil fuel use have had *at least some* effect on total greenhouse gas emissions since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015, and there's some evidence to back up this position

A lil thread 🧵
a man is talking about being entirely successful .
Alt: a robot is is talking about not being entirely successful .

In France we have a law that says they have to ask you before printing a receipt. In practice, no one I see at the grocery store ever asks for the receipts (at least for food items)

This looks really cool, but I wonder what this mysterious silicon-free solar paint is. Perovskite? It's weird that they don't say which technology they're using.
Mercedes unveils car with 20% efficient ultra-thin solar coating
Mercedes-Benz unveiled its first car prototype with a silicon-free, 20%-efficient nanoparticle solar coating that powers the vehicle even when off and uses modules thinner than a human hair.

Primary energy coefficients used in building regulations are highly political and dependent on your goals, and pretending they're just a result of physics is totally dishonest.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"

L'ADEME dévoile aujourd'hui une grande étude sur la mobilité des enfants.

Great episode, instructive as a European too! This question has been debated a lot in France among transit advocates.
NEW EPISODE: "Should the Bus Be Free? With Yonah Freemark."

Zohran Mamdani has promised fast, free buses if he becomes mayor of NYC. It's a big idea, but is it a good one? @yonahfreemark.com walks us through the pros and cons, with examples from around the world.

The USA government could invest in a bike lane network, allowing millions of americans to get some exercise while saving money (because bikes are so much cheaper than cars) but no, they choose car dependency and tell you to pay for a gym you can't afford.
RFK Jr. is over on Twitter telling everyone to hit the gym on the weekends.

IDK it’s almost like he doesn’t know or care that:

Many Americans don’t have weekends off

Many Americans can’t afford gym fees

Many Americans don’t have a safe place to exercise

Hi, I'm an engineer in a movie. After weeks of working on a difficult problem (sometimes removing my glasses to rub my eyes), I will come up with a genius yet extremely simple solution, such as "just turn the motor upside down", getting inspiration from an everyday event, like someone spilling food.
Hi, I'm a French person in an american movie. My name is Pierre Lafleur or Jean-Paul Dubois. I'm gonna say random french words in my english sentences like "Monsieur" ou "mon ami".
Sometimes I will say a full french sentence with a strong canadian accent.
Hi, I’m an highschool teacher in a movie. I start my class with a random question on a topic I’ve never discussed before so the new girl can show off. Then if I say something relevant about the main conflict, the bell rang and the students leave even if the class started 5 minutes ago.
