If I was sad my mum died, someone telling me "no, she's alive" would enrage me, not cheer me up; I'd feel patronised by the pointless lie.
So I don't understand why people tell me I'm beautiful or attractive or whatnot after learning I know I'm not, thinking it'll cheer me up. I find it insulting.

If you're old enough to have a fucking credit card to use then you're likely old enough for the adult side of the Internet anyways. Literally no need for this face scanning/ID privacy invading shit and they clearly know there's not.
