My heart is with the National Guard members shot and killed near the White House today and their families who are left to grieve — the day before Thanksgiving.

These shootings are senseless and frequent. They impact everyone. We have to do more.

Starship doesn’t have enough launch fuel to escape low-earth-orbit, so SpaceX’s plan for Artemis III is to launch one, and then launch a bunch more Starships (at least 14!!) with a cargo of extra fuel, and gradually refuel the first one in orbit so it can get it the moon

That’s the actual plan

money no object? I would move to France (probably Nice or somewhere smaller like Agen). In the US, I prefer where I live quite frankly. Of this list, maybe NYC (decent mass transit, high density, decent transit corridor in the northeast)
Tell you what--I like Baltimore plenty, but it is really interesting to me that Baltimore places higher on this list than Seattle, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix...

If I lived in Baltimore I'd mention this survey to Philadelphians I knew at every opportunity.

(Dallas, though? GTFO.)
Bluesky: “Obviously the housing crisis is the only reason anyone would choose to live outside of NYC”

Actual Americans: “Vegas, baby!”

Saturn's moon #Enceladus is a top target for us in our #Voyage2050 long-term planning period.

No space agency has ever landed on Enceladus. And yet this moon has enormous potential for new science, particularly in the realm of habitability.

about correct, though the sequel trilogy made me reappraise the prequels. I would place all of them above any movie from the sequel trilogy (so 5, 6, 7). Of the sequel movies, keep the order. The Last Jedi had some of the best Star Wars material (anything with Rey) and the absolute worst (sans Rey).
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

New from me for @science.org: A major planetary science conference will require submitted abstracts to comply with Trump's anti-DEI executive orders.

This conference, LPSC, is a big deal. It's been running since 1970 and is one of the biggest planetary science conferences out there. 🧪🔭

BREAKING: Prosecutors in the Comey case just told the judge that they’re under orders from the Deputy Attorney Generals’s office not to disclose whether career prosecutors wrote a memo recommending *against* indicting Comey prior to Halligan going to the grand jury.

3 years ago, NASA crashed the DART spacecraft into an asteroid at 22,000 kilometers per hour. The event changed the asteroid's orbit and tilt & sent it tumbling.

A nearby cubesat captured these remarkable images of the asteroid immediately after the impact. 🧪🔭

We need a reimagined LPSC flavored meeting and the locale should be Tucson in March, after the gem show. Plenty of hotel choices along the free tram line that goes to the convention center. Visit Tucson is onboard to support this. If anyone has the bandwidth to invent the meeting we've got the city.
Abstracts submitted to LPSC 2026 are required to comply with White House (non-legally binding) executive orders forbidding mention of topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

At least USRA/LPI isn't hiding it.

But is this what our community wants? Or deserves? I don't think so.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Tesla continues to prove that they are not a serious company. Giving him that much money after basically lighting the company on fire for the last two years is beyond ridiculous. Tesla isn't a car company or an AI company or a tech company any more. It's a meme coin disguised as a stock.
NEW YORK (AP) — Tesla shareholders approve massive pay package that could make Elon Musk world's first trillionaire.

Correction. Our costume was: "ALLEGED assault with a deli weapon, AN ALLEGATION ULTIMATELY REJECTED BY A JURY OF HIS PEERS AFTER CAREFUL DELIBERATION."
Our couple’s costume this year is: “Assault with a deli weapon.”

Happy Halloween to everyone except ICE, the National Guard, and other federal law enforcement occupying our city. #FreeDC
