1) The Saudi public is >95% opposed, even though it is not a democracy he has to pay attention to this,
2) MBS has managed to get almost everything he wanted without normalizing,
and
3) He has bolstered his image as diplomat via pushing for 2SS.

Why do you think MBS is so firm on this issue? I have a hard time imagining it's out of any firm moral principles. Does he think it would be very costly domestically? Or he just hasn't been offered nearly enough to sell out? Or both I guess

Yeah I think this is kinda close to how things end up panning out, that or no one really ever takes up the crown again. The outcome is more or less downstream of the US electorate
somehow the crown we threw in the gutter is going to be waiting for us to pick it up when we're able
