ProPublica published children's letters and drawings documenting their sadness and suffering at Dilley. And Dilley staff are now retaliating by confiscating kids' letters and drawings.

a funny pattern i've noticed from wikipedia editing: an artist, often a famous and respected one, will make the decision that their biography must not inform their art. dozens of museum shows, monographs, millions spent investing in recording this artist's output, all focused on ~the work~

back in ny next month to see art n friends, time for my thrice yearly tradition of opening 250+ tabs to figure out what shows to hit up. and still inevitably missing something very cool.

Anyone currently involved in federal immigration enforcement, every officer, every bureaucrat, every lawyer, every judge, is a member of the most evil group of people this country has seen since Reconstruction. Darkness personified, every one. Doing this to children is beyond depraved.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

One of the purest examples of a moral panic in our time. A clinic that had years-long waitlists and required an average of 7 appointments before providing transition care smeared and shut down for being reckless.

Criminality is so rampant inside CBP that it has seen one of its own agents or officers arrested every 24 to 36 hours since 2005.

In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

I feel so sick reading this. She dedicated her life to helping her immigrant trans siblings, finally got the medical care she sought her whole life, and then a year later ICE tricked her, kidnapped her and used her postoperative status as a weapon to destroy her health.

CW for basically everything
She Was Honored With A Human Rights Award. Then She Says ICE Tricked And Arrested Her.
A HuffPost investigation found how the Trump administration systematically destroyed safeguards for detainees, subjecting them to abuse and neglect.

Just a quick note that if you did the ol' seal clap when the police roughed up student protesters on campuses across the US, you don't get to now be horrified by the entirely predictable downstream outcome. archive.ph/MZJVG

This is all due to the incredible resistance of the people of Minnesota.

Their resilience - and their determination - helped enforce the Constitution in a way that political elites in Congress and the courts did not or could not.

has anyone written a more recent look back piece on the impacts of bridgeman v corel? I've only ever seen journal articles from like the 00s and early 10s.

arguably four of the most important healthcare providers currently operating in the US! say what you want about whitman-walker, but they gave blood sweat and tears to make american medicine give a damn about HIV/AIDS and treat queer/trans people like we're humans. i keep running out words.
The Trump administration is going directly after LGBTQ healthcare providers and targeting them with threats of losing access to Medicaid/Medicare payments.

This is government by tweet, where every day, HHS targets more and more GAC providers with threats of investigation and withholding of funding.

no it's actually totally cool that you neglected to shovel your vacant home's sidewalk for two weeks and then started doing 8am construction on the other side of my wall. and it's totally fine that you dumped all the ripped-out radiators from your home onto said unshovelled sidewalk.

A 14-year-old girl said she was "crying" and "struggling to breathe" when law enforcement officers herded her onto a racetrack with other detainees and zip-tied her hands.

important thread about the kids.

separately, I'll just say, I grew up online, I don't remember a time before the internet, I know that the majority of my information is prob out there in someone's hands already. but i'll be damned if I ever upload my ID/scan my face to access social media lmao.
The Discord age verification discourse focuses on adults losing access to communities they have a right to access. That's important.

I'm also worried, though, about the kids. They seem to be an afterthought in these conversations. They have much to lose too. 🧵 www.theverge.com/tech/875309/...
Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month

I'm pretty sure people knew gambling was bad around when Plato was rapping on street corners to hotties, when Hatsheput was gender bending in 1480 BC, she knew about gambling.

The only thing new is very naughty men decided we didn't need regulations on gambling and that kids were the best marks.
In the future we're gonna look back at online gambling and prediction markets in the same way we look now at cigarettes on airplanes and lead-based paint
