Happy St David’s Day—Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus ❤️
For St David’s Day we present our latest Channel 4 News/BBC News long-distance musical collaboration. Ciaran Jenkins (cello) is in Glasgow and I’m in Moscow (on the piano). Together we play Myfanwy. @c4ciaran.bsky.social

That’s some decent advice! St David’s Day doesn’t get the press or the green beer or whatever, but as saints go the patron saint of Wales was all right. #cymru

A reminder to Welsh Government: you run higher education in Wales and your party colleagues are in power at Westminster. If you want devolution to survive - indeed, if you want Wales to survive - you have to actually do something about the crises happening under your watch.

Its been an been an occasional theme in my time as a Welsh political journalist that organisations in a funding relationship with WG sometimes can be reluctant to push too hard in the media if problems emerge
First, civil society dependence on WG – the reality, I think, is harsher than presented.

To be diplomatic here, it is not unheard of for WG to ‘remind’ organisations of their funding relationship if disagreements are pushed too hard. That has consequences. (2/3)

We are greatly saddened to hear of the death of Professor Geraint H. Jenkins, a former Director of the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies. An eminent historian, he was among the finest scholars of his generation. (1/4)

This is on top of a huge redundancy drive at Aberystwyth, other redundancies and cuts at Bangor, University of South Wales, and closing Lampeter University's campus to teaching.
An act of national suicide, especially for a smaller nation like Wales.
Utterly devastating. Spoken to colleagues this morning and the writing appears to be on the wall at the School of Music at Cardiff University.
