William pivoted to covering wrestling and deleted his entire catalogue of film content. awful

You better not think I forgot about William's Cinema. I ain't no fairweather YouTube follower. Watched his latest video unboxing a John Wayne collection and remain bodied by the branding of his channel. Observe, for example, the disparate images in his 15-20 second channel intro.
From the William's Cinema video intro: two images of William himself From the William's Cinema video intro: an image of Dr. Phil on his show (please note that Dr. Phil does not feature in the video) From the William's Cinema video intro: stock footage of a person alone on a park basketball court (please note that basketball is neither played nor mentioned in the video) From the William's Cinema video intro: the title logo for the William's Cinema channel

Ottman of course notoriously WON the Editing Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody, which naturally and notoriously spawned its own Twitter shitstorm. Ottman was Bryan Singer's editor AND composer for all of his career up to that point, from 1993's Public Access all the way up through Bohemian Rhapsody

Found a story from 2018 about Scott Derrickson fighting people on Twitter because he thought Bohemian Rhapsody was good. A Deadline report doesn't include this juicy detail: Derrickson's first Hollywood gig was co-writing BoRhap editor John Ottman's sole directorial effort Urban Legends: Final Cut.

I remember reading the script for A Serious Man some time before release (before there were trailers even I’m pretty sure) and thinking (1) wow this is crazy, absolute god-tier masterpiece even just on the page and (2) why tf does this busted copy I downloaded cut off right when there’s a tornado

another good one: Bamboozled, went from an odd unseen one in Lee’s filmography to masterpiece, largely thanks to @ashcclark.bsky.social

throwing this prompt from Twitter in here. what examples you got?
tweet by @Caol_MacCormaic that reads, uncs of film twitter: what are some movies that are canonical now but were basically unknown when we were coming up? like Come and See or Possession. inversely: what are some movies or filmmakers that seem to have fallen off? (Takashi Miike comes to mind)

Yeah I thought about Lynch's rep in general circa Inland Empire versus the time The Return rolled around, let alone now when it feels like he's a solidly common pick for Greatest Director

For years the only Wiseman films that got talked about were the Titicut and High School. Now there's a lot more interest in the years where film criticism basically ignored him (which changed around Belfast). I'm not sure a consensus one has emerged (maybe Welfare or The Store).

Yeah maybe, I guess I've never tried wayback with twitter but it must work for some things...??? I'll give it a go, good shout haha

One of the biggest surges I've witnessed from adolescence to adulthood is the reputation of horror in general, particularly a lot of giallo, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Carpenter's oeuvre. There was also only a hint of Chantal Akerman and Agnes Varda's now total canonization when I was a kid.

Scott Derrickson deleting his Twitter is a veritable burning of the Library of Alexandria for the podcast research I'm trying to do
wormsgreenrealm.bsky.social
The amount of casual bestiality jokes I encounter in amateur or otherwise low-level stand-up these days has me wondering if there’s a hacky new textbook ala Save the Cat for comedy that is teaching prospective comedians about an unfortunate alternative to Save the Cat / Kick the Dog

Yeah not the most appealing public personality I've ever encountered lol

unfortunately this article is from 20 years ago when the film was released lol
wormsgreenrealm.bsky.social
Anyway the article is about the studio's successful attempt to garner Christian viewership. Exorcism "is a great topic for genre filmmaking," says Derrickson; additionally, it's "something that a lot of people believe in, and a lot of people don't...that makes it interesting as well." mmhmm okay

And Hellraiser 5 was straight to video. This was his theatrical debut. Why did this (1) not merit mentioning and (2) get digested by this writer as "having directed several previous features"???
wormsgreenrealm.bsky.social
Reading a Wall Street Journal piece about The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Really wishy-washy and bad article in general, but the worst part is where they say Scott Derrickson has "directed several previous horror movies, including Hellraiser 5." He had directed ONE previous horror movie: Hellraiser 5.

One of the best movies!! we're so blessed to be living in a time where you can just watch this in nice quality; when I was a teenager it was such a grubby, cursed, obscure artifact that you had to appreciate in terrible pirated .avi quality lol
